Dead at 77
John Murtha passed away today due to a perforated intestine, which was a complication due to gall bladder surgury.
I don’t really care for Murtha, as a person he was a jerk. But as a Marine as well as a family man… there is something to say. Yes he said some stupid things about our troops which he knows were wrong. But as a Marine he did volunteer his services for Veitnam and was also a Korean War Vet. He was also married to the woman for over 50 year. Just because he was a complete jerk…. doesn’t mean he wasn’t the worst person in the world.
I can think of a few who are FAR worse then Murtha.![Murtha_rednecks[1]](http://constitutionclub.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/murtha_rednecks1.jpg?w=300&h=212)

This guy, at Nancy Pelosi’s direction, sold out his country, the Marine Corp and his honor to gain a political advantage. He was a corrupt, earmark grabbing, pork seeker.
pg.. he is dead. Move on already.
I did not disparage the guy out of the blue. I did not do a post attacking the guy at the time of his death. The moving on advice might make sense if I had. I stated facts in counter to yours to provide contrast. His actions damaged this country. His declaration that Marines had committed murder placed our troops and this nation at greater risk. I wrote about that on this blog a number of times.
He might have been a good family man and a fine Marine. His death neither excuses nor denies his virtues or vices.
I will avoid disparaging the dead for a reaonable amount of time but I have to concur with the humble messenger in all respects here…
Oh good lord PG.
Death does nothing to the person.. it isn’t like they are going to answer back for you screaming at them you are a bad so and so!
FYI no one is perfect. And everyone always forgets the good you do via the wrongs and stupid crap you have done. That would be a fact.
I do not think I am screaming at the guy. I am making a point about what he did. I did not condemn him as a human being.
I do not understand the “nobody is perfect” argument in looking at people within the context of a political blog. In death or life it should be assumed that nobody is perfect. In fact I sincerely hope he is safe in the arms of God right now. I am not judging the guy’s immortal soul, just his words and deeds as a congressman.
For instance you made some justifiable remarks about Andrew Sullivan as a person on this blog because of how he treated Gov Palin. His death would not change those facts. Nor would the most certain existence of some kind of good works Sullivan must have committed negate them either.
Whether alive or dead, sinner or saint, it is difficult to have a political discourse if we “may not speak evil” of a person. Now if I had drawn a picture of the devil sodomizing Murtha and attached that to a story celebrating his death, like Pandagon did for both Falwell and Helms at their deaths, you would have a point.
I did not raise my voice, much less scream.
Maybe you think my motivation here is malice towards Murtha. It isn’t. I am not angry at the man. He words and deeds are important now, and need to be put in perspective now, because others are still doing the same thing.
Anyway, this is my story and I am sticking to it.
How does this statement; “I don’t really care for Murtha, as a person he was a jerk” and “just because he was a complete jerk” jive with this; pg.. he is dead. Move on already.
If you want to write a nice remembrance on here for the deceased (left or right), by all means have at it. We do it often. But you can’t have a post that calls out the flaws of the dead man, funny picture included, and then deride someone for calling out the flaws of a dead man!
C’mon Up! No fair setting rules on your thread that you yourself don’t follow. . . that’d be like John Murtha
E you are correct. It was a alterstate. But I amnot going to put down the man’s career in the military or his family.
I have issues with people who do stuff like that. HE WAS A JERK, but he was also a family man as well as a Marine. Very rare this day and age.
