Politicizing Science Redux

As I feel the thread became stale on “Politicizing Science: A Plague On Both Your Houses,” but as I’d promised a rebuttal, I’ve decided to continue with a new post instead. The link above will allow you to read the earlier comments.

Obviously I don’t agree with you Zazu. I would like to consider your assertions point-by-point. None of this is coming from some creationist or I.D. book. It’s just my thinking based on my personal training in science, mathematics and philosophy at Michigan State University, the University of California at Santa Cruz, and Colorado State University.

Dave’s Quote of the Day

It is time to pop the tea baggers’ favorite balloon (so what if it will be replaced by another?), and with that in mind I hereby offer to negotiate a $100,000 payday to the person who will come forward with a sex tape or phone records or anything else that succeeds in removing Glenn Beck from the public eye forever. I am not offering the cash myself, but I will broker the deal and/or raise the money for what you bring to the table. (And it better be good.) If you have the goods, or if you want to contribute to a slush fund to buy more takedowns (probably not tax deductible), please contact me at: glennbecksextape@gmail.com.

-Beau Friedlander; the former editor-in-chief of Air America

More love and kisses from a frothing-at-the-mouth hatemonger. The hatred these progressives have towards Christians, conservatives, and constitutionalists is downright disturbing. The Huffington Post pulled this article after it was published this morning targeting Glenn Beck with a $100,000 bounty after news of the threat was broken on Free Republic. The article, titled $100,000 For Glenn Beck’s Sex Tapes has been replaced with the following message:

Editor’s Note: This piece was published directly to the Huffington Post by its author. It didn’t meet our editorial standards and has been removed from the site.

John Cusack’s insight

John Cusack has never been a particular favorite of mine.  Right behind Keanu Reeves’ stoic one-expression acting is John Cusack’s ability to stare straight ahead through an entire career of movies, he ranks as the second worst actor in Hollyowood.  He finally makes ONE movie I enjoy, mainly because he pulls off being a crackhead so well.  So, imagine my dismay when, after accepting him after twenty years of thinking he’s yet another brain-dead actor propped up by their family’s inside connections to Hollywood, he tweets this:

“I AM FOR A SATANIC DEATH CULT CENTER AT FOX NEWS HQ AND OUTSIDE THE OFFICES ORDICK ARMEYAND NEWT GINGRICH-and all the GOP WELFARE FREAKS,”

OK, I’m not really in the mood to debate Hollywood crackheads experiencing a meltdown, but I’ll give it my best shot:

John, step away from the crack, slowly.

OK, I’m done.

What exactly is one to debate?  That made absolutely no sense at all.  All it really does to me is reinforce my original assumption that he’s a talentless crackhead propped up by his family’s Hollywood connections.  And, when feeling threatened, he does what all liberals do, resort to name calling and insults rather than making even the remotest attempt at logically discussing the topic.

The only thing better than Cusack becoming completely unhinged was this:

“His provocative tweets could easily incite a rabid fan to commit violent acts against Fox News Headquarters and others he names,” said Dr. Carole Lieberman, a Beverly Hills-based psychiatrist and author of “Coping with Terrorism: Dreams Interrupted

I know she means well, but I don’t really think Cusack has any rabid fans.  Someone can prove me wrong if they want as that is purely a hunch on my part.  But, I’m guessing Fox, Dick Armey, and Newt are as safe now as they were before Cusack’s call to action to form a satanic death cult.

Dry run for terror?

Dutch Question 2 Men Arrested on Terror Suspicion on Flight From Chicago to Amsterdam

Dutch investigators on Tuesday questioned two Detroit-area men arrested at Amsterdam’s airport after U.S. authorities found suspicious items in their checked luggage, including a cell phone taped to a Pepto-Bismol bottle and a knife and box cutter.

The pair were arrested Monday morning at Schiphol Airport after getting off a United Airlines flight from Chicago, where their decision to change their flight plans raised flags in the U.S. that they were potentially assessing the aviation system for a potential future terror attack

They were being held at the airport for questioning, but neither has been charged with any offense in the Netherlands, said Martijn Boelhouwer, spokesman for the national prosecutor’s office. Under Dutch law, the men can be held without charges for up to six days.

Sources told Fox News that the men posed no immediate danger to the flight, but U.S. officials are looking into whether the men were “testing the system.”

Not sure who Fox’s “source” is, but they are dumber than mud and not to be considered a trustworthy “source”. My memory seems to be better than the “source”, follow the wavy lines:

Terrorists who hijacked American Airlines Flight 11 out of Boston this morning slit the throats of two female flight attendants who tried to bar them from entering the cockpit, an American Airlines employee told WorldNetDaily in an exclusive interview.

The terrorists then forced their way into the locked cockpit and commandeered the Boeing 767 to New York, where they slammed it into one of the World Trade Center towers. The flight, carrying 81 passengers, was bound for Los Angeles.

A third stewardess aboard the nine-crew flight – Madeline Amy Sweeney – used her cellphone, or possibly the plane phone, to alert Michael Woodward, her superviser back at Logan International Airport, about the hijacking and murders. The terrorists were armed with razor-tipped knives that looked like box cutters, she relayed.

OK, I’ll have to let someone else make the argument for needing a box cutter on an actual flight. I personally can’t think of one. Toss in the fact that one of the Al-whatevers is from Yemen flying all over the civilized world with lots of cash and pretend IED’s and I think you’ve got someone who really just needs to be locked up permanently or gotten rid of for eternity.

And once Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al Soofi and Hezam al Murisi have been given their martyrdom, that “source” needs to be taken as far away from airports as you can possibly get. When I fly I want someone who knows what a threat is and does something about it ASAP.

The story doesn’t read terribly clear but if they knew that these Muslems had box cutters before they got on the plane to fly to Amsterdam, I’d be suing the hell out of whoever made that decision to let them fly if I were on that flight. That’s just nuts. Spy on them later. Let them know getting on planes with box cutters isn’t tolerated now.

Mexico sacks 10% of police force in corruption probe

Drug war in Mexico.

Though so much more needs to be done in Mexico in order to tackle police corruption, every little bit helps. The worry is that corruption isn’t merely in the police departments, but in the military, government and even among the people. There so many on the take from the drug cartels in certain parts of Mexico that it may be impossible to root them out entirely.

Reductio Ad Racism

In which the Beast breaks a cardinal (or at least ordinal) rule of blogging.

Poor taste? Definitely. Racist? Um....

Ibid

If you or anybody else were to write a piece about the Nazis and you chose to call them “evil” (which you would, sooner or later), nobody would expect you to support that contention with a comprehensive list of all the bad stuff the Nazis did. We all (at least, those of us over 25) know the Nazis did bad stuff; lots of us saw “Schindler’s List” (or at least woke up several times and glanced at the screen while it was playing) and “Saving Private Ryan.” Indeed, the words “Nazi” and “Evil” are pretty much synonyms by now. Nazis=Evil.

The tendency to accept certain things as “given” is an indispensable tool in daily life. Imagine if you had to support every utterance with footnotes, sources and attributions; you’d never get laid at all! And while it’s definitely a good thing to “get the hell on with it” when you’re trying to make a point so you don’t waste everybody’s time dithering away at defining terms prefatory to proving that the Yankees Suck, there’s always the chance that some asshat will try to sneak in an opinion as axiomatic that definitely isn’t and needs supporting evidence.

In fact, one could argue that axioms are often created to avoid having to provide proof of an opinion. State your belief as self-evident forcefully and often enough and you have some hope that time and repetition will eventually cause others to believe it as true.

Hence “Tea Party” and “Racism”, or “Ground Zero Mosque Opposition” and “Islamophobia”. In both of these cases, liberals and the mainstream media (but the Beast repeats himself) have peered into the souls of the principals involved and found them rotten with bigotry and rife with animus. And the fact that there is an absolute dearth of real life examples to support their contention that all and sundry are motivated by hate doesn’t slow them down one iota.

And headlines – boy we get headlines. Just today Stanley Crouch of the New York Daily News published a six hundred and fifty four word rage screech entitled “Drowning out the hate hustlers: Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck cannot steal America’s soul.” His thesis?

Now that irresponsible opportunists have brought many of the misled to Washington, we can begin to contemplate what makes bigotry so appealing. Surely, being able to exclude is one of the great joys of the species because it can give a grand identity to the average person.

That identity as one of the elect made the red glow in Southern white necks. They felt part of a civilization in which they were looked down upon until they put on their costumes, screamed loudly at mob gatherings and committed acts of violence.

And he’s just warming up! He goes on to condemn the horrid racist bigots for all their horrible racialism and bigotosity, all of which is definitely bad and not good at all in its badness. And who could argue with that? Racism and bigotry are bad and should be condemned.

But shouldn’t it also be proven? If you’re going to tar a person or group with the brush of what amounts to the worst social sin in the modern era, might you not also need to show that they’re guilty? You know, with examples and stuff.

And here’s where our old buddy Axiom comes in. Mr. Crouch doesn’t need to assemble boring lists of hate crimes and speech perpetrated by these people, he’s beyond that. He’s read the minds and hearts of America and he knows the truth. Everybody knows it – expect George Clooney to release the screenplay any day now.

And you can see this most clearly in the title of Crouch’s rant: “…drowning out the hate hustlers”. He and his ilk are hoping to achieve with volume what they can’t with reason. Shout the opponents down, scream racism loud enough and hopefully the other guys (like those 68% of Americans opposed to the Ground Zero Mosque, including 55% of Democrats) will just sit down and shut up. Of course, to build a genuine Axiom you need the majority of the people to believe it at face value, and one suspects that seventy percent of Americans are unlikely to decide they’re bigots and swing over to Mr. Crouch’s side.

Dave’s Quote of the Day

“Our Declaration of Independence ends with these words: ‘And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.’ Renewing our ‘reliance on the protection of Divine Providence’ doesn’t seem like such a bad idea, even after 234 years.”

Why You Should Sign the Manhattan Declaration

A matter of trust – CNN

This screen grab of CNN covering Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor rally pretty much sums up the state of “professional” reporting these days.

Wanna count the errors?

  1. Happening Now is obviously not Sara Palin.
  2. It’s Sarah Palin, not Sara Palin.
  3. Sarah Palin was never a Presidential candidate, she was, of course, a Vice-Presidential candidate.

With so very little concern about getting the very obvious correct, ever wonder how much CNN gets right?

“Those Voices Don’t Speak for the Rest of Us”

Liberals Now Want Their Own Sarah Palin?

Hard on the heels of Sarah Palin’s stellar speech (and we assure the readers that our juxtaposition of the words words “Hard on”, “heels”, and “Sarah Palin” is purely coincidental) at yesterday’s D.C. rally, Feministas Anna Holmes and Rebecca Traister have published an Op-ed in today’s New York Times bemoaning the left’s lack of a similar charismatic female leader. It is a stunning admission of political failure, or it would be if they were talking about anything other than Feminism, which hasn’t chalked up a single genuine victory since the 70′s.

Palin is a political Dreadnought – she’s withstood two years of constant assault from the left and yet refuses to sink. Libs have thrown their entire arsenal at her but she continues on, even picking up speed. She’s now on the verge of appropriating one of their most cherished issues – Women’s Rights – and it’s driving them crazy.

Glenn Beck – Restoring Honor Rally 2010 Video

On Saturday some half a million plus patriots descended upon Washington D.C. to call for the restoration of American values and to honor those brave men and women who are serving this nation in the military. I have been receiving multiple links about the Restoring Honor rally held on 8-28-10 all day from a variety of people. Our own Conclub blogger MoK was in attendance and I hope that we will hear a first person report once she returns and has a chance to fill us in.

It was a fairly bold and risky move to hold the rally on the anniversary, and indeed at the same location, as the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “I Have A Dream” speech. But in the end the publicity was great, the inclusion of Dr. Aveda King (the niece of Martin Luther King) was brilliant, the raising of over $5 1/2 million dollars in scholarship money for the children of slain soldiers was noble, and the as usual well-behaved and peaceful crowd in the hundreds of thousands showed the nation that the activists on the Right are far from the racist crazies that the media and the Left have been furiously attempting to portray them as. Instead, they are dedicated American patriots who care deeply about their nation and its future.

Federal Reserve Soon to Become Biggest Threat to National Security

Chairman Of Joint Chiefs Of Staff Says National Debt Is Biggest Threat To National Security | zero hedge.

Not China, not Russia, not North Korea, not Iran, not terrorists…According to Admiral Mike Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the “single biggest threat” to American national security is the US national debt, which is either $8.85 trillion (public debt), $13.4 trillion (total national debt), $20 trillion (total debt including GSE debt), or $124 trillion (total debt including unfunded obligations), depending on one’s definition of the word “debt.” And as Zero Hedge has long been warning, the imminent increase in interest rates (sooner or later), will eventually put the country in an untenable funding position. “Tax payers will be paying around $600 billion in interest on the national debt by 2012, the chairman told students and local leaders in Detroit.” The Chairman (the real one, not his pale imitation over at Marriner Eccles) politely forgot to add that the successful rolling of nearly $600 billion in debt per month is likely an even greater threat to national security.

With Helicopter Ben getting everyone prepared for QE2, the amount of debt held by the Federal Reserve is getting ready to skyrocket.  And, it looks as if the Treasury is going to be creating plenty more for them to purchase.

We hope it is appreciated promptly enough, that the entity highlighted in red can just as easily become the biggest domestic threat to national security, should the interests it represents, both political and financial, not get their way.

There’s Money in Murder

Planned Parenthood (an oxymoron at best) has been the trailblazer in legalized murder and promiscuous sex for many decades.  Since Margaret Sanger, outspoken eugenics and sexual immorality supporter, began her first birth control clinic in 1916, the value of human life has dropped.  Since then, countless millions of infants have died in the name of convenience.  That’s what PP is about.  Conveniece for those who are irresponsible.  PP has, since the beginning (and true to Sanger’s own sexual views) promoted promiscuous sex.  In her own words, “[Our objective is] unlimited sexual gratification without the burden of unwanted children…”  Not withstanding the Biblical view on  this subject, that is a very irresponsible attitude; but one that has been so easily accepted by lazy people.  Thus, the assurance of continued income for PP.

That pesky 10,000 mark

A few months or so ago, Obama hit the beach and started delivering his “economy is recovering, but not enough” message.  Some think this was in response to the rather catastrophic forecast of the first Tuesday in November.  Personally, I do.  “It’s the economy, stupid.”  Simple message, hard to debate.  The message then was that the recovery was so obvious even his critics had to admit it.  He wouldn’t say who they were, but you know who they are because they would go home and take credit for the successes.  Well, as of today, it’s not being reflected on Wall Street.  That’s who Obama blames for all of our problems.

When he gave that speech, the Dow had just topped 10,500.  As of today, it’s 9,985.  What’s scarier is some finance guys are forecasting 5,000 in less than two years.  I won’t rule them out.  I’m looking for that “critic” that has to admit that negative growth is an obvious sign of recovery.

In the time he gave that speech, new housing permits have dropped from historic lows.  I don’t think anyone in housing construction is quite ready to admit that negative growth is an obvious sign of recorvery either.

In the time since he gave that speech, unemployment has dropped .2%.  However, employment has dropped precipitously as well.  It’s not that fewer are claiming unemployment benefits because they’re finding jobs, it’s that fewer people are even trying to at this point.  I don’t think too many critics will admit that fewer people working is an obvious sign of recovery either.

Quite frankly, the speech he made on May 18, 2010 claiming his critics were going home taking credit for the obvious recovery is just a flat out lie.  It looked bad then, it looks much worse now.  I’d shout out “You lie!”, but then I’d be called a racist.  So, I won’t.  I’ll just type it very quietly here.

More people out of work while imports surge?

While employment still failed to gain any traction, businesses increased their inventories and invested in infrastructure. Usually when businesses invest heavily, you get employment. This time however, it all came from overseas by way of imports, which surged 28%.

The reason is simple, it’s so much cheaper to buy overseas than it is to try to manufacture this stuff here. And, with Obama making damn sure hiring people gets as expensive as he possibly can, it’s just going to get worse. There’s no law that tells businesses they have to buy domestic. Even with Obama’s Cash for Clunkers program, most of that money went to buy foreign made cars. Sure, some of them were manufactured in the United States, but a lot were not. And apparently a good deal of the current ARRA money is being sent out of the country. That just doesn’t really do us much good now does it? Borrowing money to give to other countries. Bad plan.

Rule #1: If you receive Recovery money, it has to stay here. That won’t solve the whole problem, but it will certainly mitigate the damage of these brain-dead stimulus programs.

And the next time Obama brags on the millions of jobs he saved, ask him which country they were in.

VIDEO: John Carpenter – All That Glitters Is Gold

John Carpenter is originally from New Jersey, but has become a breath of fresh air to the sometimes stagnant Los Angeles indie music scene. He performs frequently, and has been seen at Spaceland and The Las Vegas Shakedown Festival in (where else?) Las Vegas, Nevada. His music is a combination of Scott Walker, The Velvet Underground, hints of The Gun Club and Joy Division, and perhaps a dash of early Roxy Music. The man, and the band, are a record collection compressed into a tight performance troupe.

Christopher Hitchens’ Example to America

Though I wouldn’t be so bold as to cite Hitch as an example for anything but epicurean living and talking smack with a preciseness that borders on viciousness, I do think that one of the great scribe’s wonderful points is that he talks to all sides. He can talk to low-lives like Bill Maher and Keith Olbermann, mocking them on some points while agreeing on others, yet he can also be heard on the right side of the political spectrum enjoying a chat on political and cultural matters with people like Hugh Hewitt, Dennis Prager and Dinesh D’Souza.

If it is true that he is preparing to die, then I’ll be among the first to say I’ll miss his wit, though not his hideous and vulgar comments against God and church. That’s something he’ll have to answer for when such time comes. Still, he forces theists to think about their beliefs and makes leftists cringe at having to view their moral cowardice in dealing with the clash of civilizations we are in now, as he had to reckon with when leaving the hard left so long ago. His life story would make an interesting documentary.

Article Roundup for August 24, 2010

It’ll be a while before I’m back in a groove again, but it’s nice to chat with old friends here…

Cracks in the Iranian Monolith by Michael Ledeen, Wall Street Journal. Though Iran may be close to having ‘The Bomb’, there is an outright revolt inside of Iran. We’ve heard these stories before, but this time, it’s not only the Green Movement pushing. There is movement from inside the business community and the military. Both were instrumental in causing the fall of the Shah, and both could end up ridding Iran of its scourge.

The Middle East’s widdle Hitler by Ted Nugent, Washington Times. The ‘Motor City Madman’ gives an op-ed for the Times, and pulls no punches regarding the dangers an Iran armed with nukes poses.

Deter Pyongyang through Beijing by Michael Mazza, The American. North Korea has absolutely no interest in making peace with its neighbors, as its raison d’etre for being in power will disintegrate and the regime will end up committing political (and perhaps literal) suicide. If anyone can bring the dog of the Korean Peninsula to heel, it will be China. China itself needs a good whack on the nose to control the puny tyrant of Pyongyang.

Judge: Somali Pirates Who Fired on U.S. Navy Are Not Really Pirates by Andy McCarthy, National Review. Elections have consequences. This fool of a judge issued an unbelievable ruling, and we’re stuck with it as pirates are now free to shoot at our Navy and get away with it.

Scandal over Palestinian-Israeli talks by Konstantin Garibov, Voice of Russia. For interesting reading, click the above link of how Russia views our diplomacy efforts in the Middle East. Republican Party – Find Solutions and Let’s (yes, me included) Stop the Blame Game!

I went on vacation for much needed R&R. I turned off the television and enjoyed treasured family moments.  Most especially when my daughter and I got the gags in a convenience store restroom when a nice little old lady visited the toilet before us.

When home I wondered what I’d missed in the land of political news. I almost wondered if I dare turn the television back on ever again. “No, denial cannot be pure bliss”, I thought.

I continued upon my responsibilities in life. The kids back to school. Our college boy hurt badly in football camp.  Does he need surgery or just rehab? Yes, he needs surgery, multiple tears in his left rotator cuff. My calmness as a long-time football mom still doesn’t remain all that calm when my boy gets hurt 277.51 miles away (yes, we’ve made the trip that many times to know).

Mo’s Quote of the Day

Well, here’s a quote I read just last night, and it perfectly states why a patriot like me who loves his country and wants to do good cannot run for office and win in modern America:

The media’s interest on candidate’s private lives has already had at least one bad effect on society. A powerful alliance of the media and left-wing feminists and the religious right has ensured that fewer quality people will run for political office. Few great individuals are willing to have their lives dissected in ways that virtually guarantee undeserved personal and family suffering. A person’s desire for political office has to overwhelm a desire to protect one’s own and one’s family’s privacy, and such an individual is precisely not the type of person we want most to lead us.

~Dennis Prager, “Think A Second Time” p.1995

We’ve evolved a system that ensures the worst possible people–those who are smart, clever, devious, dishonest, and hungry for power will always rise to the top levels of government. That’s what’s got to change, or we’ve got to get used to being their slaves. Or at least their ATMs.

That Bush wrecked the economy pushing two wars myth

The prevailing story that liberals have hung their hat on for the last couple of years is Obama can’t win because he was strung with funding two wars. No economy can sustain that. Case closed. Sounds simple enough. Numbers should back that one up, right?

Look close at that again. Make sense? Try again. Without going into a whole lot of detail, quite simply, in his first year, Barack Obama spent more on his stimulus than the entire Iraq War. The CBO puts the actual cost of the Iraqi war at $709 billion. Not the $3 trillion cited by Obama.

It’s not that he was slightly wrong on an estimate or anything, he was way off. No one has a clue where that number came from. That amounts to about $100 billion a year. To put it in perspective, his stimulus plans have accounted for about $800 billion. A year. All those wonderful things he could have done with that $3 trillion never would have existed. He lied to you.

To put it in proper perspective, his one year of stimulus cost us more than the entire eight years of the Iraq War. Raise your hands, how many people benefited from the stimulus? We could have benefitted probably, but his special interests got it first. I’m not in a union, it didn’t do squat for me.

If we couldn’t afford those wars, then it’s obvious we can’t afford Obama.

The War of Words

In the Internet generation, I have noticed that socializing with others takes on new meaning. With the advent of social networking, blog sites, news on line, etcetera opinions, beliefs, ideas, conversations and friendships are limited in their capacity. In my experience of the “Internet Life” I have witnessed how my relationships are becoming more superficial, how people are more apt to be rude even to friends and loved ones, and how some people’s lives and images may be tarnished and in some cases destroyed.

Police Brutality in Colorado – Enough is Enough

“Every day that I shave, I still have the memory of the night from the nerve damage in my face. Every time I put on socks, I still have the memory of that night because of the scars on my ankle. If the FBI, after their investigation, wants to file federal charges against them, then I think that would be absolutely justified and I don’t think it would be out of line.”

- Shawn Johnson, speaking about his permanent injuries after a beating by Denver police for using a women’s restroom in LoDo.

Just up the interstate from me is the Denver metro area. Unfortunately, for many years, we have experienced a constant stream of questionable shootings and police beatings (another here) with little being done about it by anyone in authority. With the increasing prevalence of video cameras and cell phones some of these are starting to get caught on tape. Here are just two of the most recent incidents that are now dominating the local news every night. What makes this all the more interesting is that the current Denver mayor is running for governor and has gone from covering these incidents up to now playing Pontius Pilate and washing his hands of the entire thing. No concept of leadership or taking responsibility but only now as the press and community are howling for blood has he reopened the case and turned it over to the FBI to make a determination if the first incident below was appropriate. The second and more recent incident is “under investigation” as well.

Dave’s Quote of the Day

…the November elections will be fought primarily on the mess that the president and his Congressional captains have made of the economy, the disaster that is Obamacare, and the deficit volcano.

But increasing numbers will join in the effort to toss out Democrats from top to bottom because of the three “social issues” of border security, marriage and the mosque, and not just because of the substance of the issues, but because so many among the Democrats have decided to denounce their political opponents on these matters as bigoted haters.

This wild escalation in rhetoric suggests that a kind of panicked political madness has overcome the Democrats as they study the polling numbers. They are anticipating their reaction on November 3 and giving early vent to their fury at the voters for not agreeing to blame Bush some more.

Many religious fundamentalists have serious issues with this assertion. Many legitimate scientists with both secular and religious perspectives do as well. Darwin himself recognized serious shortcomings with evolution. A new sort of “scientist,” the evolutionary biologist, has come on the scene. These folks are specifically dedicated to supporting and proving a theory. Previously science did not work that way. Scientists used to look for evidence of disproof, only accepting theories that prove unassailable.

On the other side we have unscientific religious fundamentalists. These folks are willing to describe their search for proof of their scriptures as basic science. They study scripture and seek evidence to support what it says.

Losing The Mandate: Presidential Approval Under-Water

In this economy lots of people have heard that their mortgage is underwater or their car loan is upside down. That means more is owed on something than it’s worth. I’d like to suggest that in Presidential politics the same principle applies when a President’s approval rating is below the disapproval rating.

According to Gallup, that’s exactly where we are now. Since late May the polls have flirted with this; however, allowing for error, it’s been basically a 50/50 situation. The latest approval numbers move us firmly out of error country, most Americans are now unhappy with President Obama.

That vast right-wing anti-mosque conspiracy

“There is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some. And I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded,”

In my case, unfortunately, it’s not been funded. 2/3′s of the country has issues with this project. That’s why Nancy Pelosi hears about it everywhere she goes. That very simple concept is well beyond her grasp apparently.

Where The Mosque Would Be Situated

If the Dems allow it to be built (which seems ever more unlikely, now that they’re in big political trouble over it).

Jim treacher widens the perspective:

Three things I’ve learned about the Ground Zero 9/11 Debris Field Mosque from my moral, ethical, and intellectual betters on the left

  1. A mosque isn’t a mosque if it includes a pool and a basketball court.
  2. Ground Zero does not extend one single inch past the lip of the crater.
  3. Shut up.

Thanks, Michael Calderone!

P.S. Another valuable lesson: It’s not “hallowed ground,” even if Obama said so during his fantastic speech Friday night.

“Shut up, he explained”.  Lotta wisdom there.

Obama grabs “The Big Stinky Chicken”: A Parable

You just couldn’t help yourself. You’re the biggest, toughest creature in the swamp. None dare oppose you. You swim through the stagnant water, taking what you want, doing as you will, driving all before you.

And then you catch the scent – something tempting, smelly and rank. It lures you in, you follow the trail. And you find it – dangling temptingly a scant three feet over the water: a big stinky chicken. Swinging at the end of a rope from a stout overhanging limb, lovely reeking bits dripping into the drink below, it mocks you, it beckons. If you don’t grab this big stinky chicken, others will get it instead.

Simply Put, Mr. Gross Is “Off His Nut”

How is it that a bond fund manager supports a government-sponsored mortgage program? Well, let’s see. Oh, yeah, he’s seeking a safety net for his own fund’s profits, via the government and, yes, the taxpayers. Perhaps you can’t blame him for “doing his job”, but any time a business man “urges full-nationalization” of anything, he’s letting me know he’s lost his edge and has become nothing more than a pick-pocket. Mr. Gross’ advice to the Fed is self-serving at best and he needs to be removed from his post for gross ethical misconduct.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Gets One Right, For A Change

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, often known as “The Most Overruled Court In The Nation” redeemed itself somewhat today, halting gay marriages in California pending a ruling on the appeal of Judge Walker’s ruling that the Constitutional Amendment barring said marriages (passed by seven million California voters) was unconstitutional.

Walker refused to grant a stay, ruling the Prop 8 proponents had no standing to appeal because the State had recused itself.  This was rather odd because Walker had granted Prop 8 proponents standing to argue the case (rather than grant summary judgment to plaintiffs, which would have meant no trial, hence no finding-of-facts fun), but not to appeal. A different panel will consider the actual appeal, but for now it appears the battle will go on.

G.O.P. Seizes on Mosque Issue Ahead of Elections

Here’s a NYT story which may open some interesting lines of discussion. It comes after Obama’s comment that Muslims, like anyone else, “have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in Lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances.”

Can we order or prioritize freedoms? Can one person’s rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as enumerated in the Declaration of Independence ever trump another’s? Do First Amendment rights supercede those? These are not easy questions. Why did Obama make such provocative and politically damaging statement? Rather than pouncing on him, I’d like to better understand what moves the man.

Obama And The Ground Zero Mosque

Politicians have this thing they call the “Seventy-Thirty Rule”: it stipulates that on any general issue about seventy percent of the people will feel one way and the remaining thirty percent will feel the other way. It’s always best to align yourself with the seventy over the thirty. President Obama has developed the uncanny ability to home in on the thirty camp on virtually every issue and pitch his tent there. He basically lives in Thirty-Percent-Land. The result:

So What Be You?

Since becoming a member and blogger of Constitution Club (Conclub) I have begun questioning my political views. What triggered this mental episode was a post for Conclub I had written that is now in the trash file, “A Blast From My Past” and the comments I received afterward.

I had claimed Liberalism to be a form of narcissim. I never really clarified in my post enough of why. So the commenters and myself, together, were able to clarify the concept of Liberalism more in depth throughout the commentary.

One of the ideas I had mentioned about Liberalism is that Liberalism is psychological satisfaction independent of actual costs or benefits. A really good example of this idea is presented with humor and sarcasm in the following literary work from glenbeckclicps.com:

Obama supports the 911 Mosque

“As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country,”

“That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances,” he said. “This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable.”

There has to be someone out there who is surprised by this.  2 in 10 New Yorkers polled supported the idea of the Cordoba House.  73% of all polled opposed it.  Blacks, whites, males, females, latinos, you name it, they opposed it.  So, as usual, Obama disregards the will of the majority to assert a moral opinion that he has some special insight that 73% of the people don’t.  That the same funding mechanism and values that supported killing 3,000 innocent New Yorkers should be accepted by those victims simply because it was done in the name of religion.

Clue here Obama, there’s a bunch of New Yorkers who I don’t think are going to be very tolerant.  I don’t expect them to be.  A good portion of that religion has declared holy wars on the citizens of the United States.  Some people take that seriously.

Others think they can talk their way out of it.

Side note, I’m going to bet this headline alone costs the Democrats 10 more elections.  The rap on Obama was he would be weak on defense.  The very day an aggressive Islamic nation announces they are going nuclear, Obama sells out New York City to Bin Laden.  We are pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan and tossing in Manhatten to boot.  I would hope it would be a lot bigger number than 10, but some people just can’t vote anything but Democrat.

Now THIS is the kind of leadership we need

I’ve been a fan of Col. Allen West’s ever since I heard his CPAC speech earlier this year, and subsequent speeches/interviews.

He’s a plain-speaking (like Sarah Palin, I might add), no-nonsense common sense American. (I left out “conservative”, because I know how that offends some of you.)

He is infinitely qualified to serve as a congressman, governor, and eventually POTUS. Frankly, I’d trust him 100x more as POTUS than Obama, and some other Republican candidates for that matter.
West “gets” our Constitution and what it means to be an American.
If you agree, send him a donation for Florida’s 22nd district. With luck, we may see him for a long time to come.

Listen here.

The Race Card Is Maxed Out

I’m not a fan of Jon Stewart (but I think he’s less of a boor than Bill Maher and in general is more entertaining) but every now and then he surprises me with a satirical gem aimed at the left.

Heck, if Jon gets it (and more importantly brings attention to it), that can’t be good for the other team.

Oh, and by the way, the U.S. Is Bankrupt and We Don’t Even Know It. Well, you and I do, but no one else seems to know or care. Certainly not the professional political class that got us into this mess. Things will begin to get very ugly in this country starting around 2014-2016. Mark my words. What Failure Looks Like

Newt Gingrich’s letter in Human Events yesterday gives a snapshot of just how badly Obama is doing. In brief:

As bad as the 9.5% unemployment rate is, it’s artificially low and may be as high as 22%.

Obama promised to create 3.5 million jobs, instead we’ve lost 4.1 million during his administration, a deficit of 7.6 million jobs.

Despite high unemployment, firms are having trouble filling job openings because the extension of unemployment benefits gives people an incentive to stay on unemployment, and business owners paralyzed by the Democrats’ agenda are afraid to hire new workers (or otherwise invest in their businesses) unable to predict how much they will owe in taxes and the future to the price of energy should an energy tax get passed.

A majority of Americans favor repealing the health care bill including 71% of Missouri voters who repudiated it at the polls.

A Liberal bad day

It’s been a strange week. Not that any have been terribly normal since January 2009. First we had Howard Stern trashing Democrats:

To which Robert Gibbs suggested the “professional left” should be drug tested. Howard Stern on drugs? No way.

Also during this day of both Perseids AND a massive CME, Gibbs suggested those same “professional liberals” would only be happy with Dennis Kucinich. Am I supposed to think that’s merely a coincidence? I ain’t buying it.

And to top it all off, Charlie Rangel spent 37 minutes of Congress’s time belaboring everyone that he’s not a criminal, just stupid, and that some simple reprimand’s not a good enough charge, he wants expulsion. He then threw a party. This of course comes on the heels of Nancy Pelosi’s claiming that she had nothing to do with the ethics charges against Rangel or Waters. “Draining the swamp” only applies to conservatives obviously, duh.

Steven Slater then decided to pull the cord and use the chute.

30,000 Line Up For Government Subsidized Apartments

This is up on Drudge right now; riot police had to come to some place called “East Point”, just outside Atlanta Georgia, according to the AJC:

The massive event sometimes descended into a chaotic mob scene filled with anger and impatience. Some 62 people needed medical attention and 20 of them were transported to a hospital, authorities said. A baby went into a seizure in the heat and was stabilized at a hospital. People were removed on stretchers and when a throng of people who had been waiting hours in a line were told to move to another line, people started pushing, shoving and cursing, witnesses said.

The story came with two pictures from the scene:

And this one:

Now it’s probably because the Beast lives in New Hampshire and doesn’t know anything about the south, but he had to ask this question: “Are there any white people looking for public housing in this town? Any?” One would think there’d be a few, right? The first photo is kind of like a real life version of “Where’s Waldo?”, only it’s “Where’s Whitey?”.

The Beast has managed to find four white guys so far in the pics (but they look like cops or city officials, so maybe they don’t count) – perhaps you can see more?

Judge blocks furloughs in California

A judge has blocked the governor’s order of three furloughs per month, the latest effort to conserve the state’s dwindling funds until a new budget is approved.

Alameda County Superior Court Judge Steven Brick said there are “serious questions” connected to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s order last month, and temporarily halted the move until a Sept. 13 hearing. The judge said the furloughs could create irreparable harm to the 156,000 state employees who would lose three paid workdays — or almost 15 percent of their salary — under the order, which would save the cash-strapped state $150 million per month.

This judge came to the incredible epiphany that, oh sheez, this is so complicated I’m sure most everyone will have a very difficult time understanding it. But, I will do my utmost best to word it in such a way that it makes some sense. Alameda County Superior Court Judge Steven Brick came to the conclusion that paying people to work less causes them to not make as much money as they would have. I kid you not, he figured it out. I’m sure he had help since it took him over a year to come that conclusion. But he got it.

Signs Of Electoral Doom Redux

The Beast posted Moe Lane’s Top 10 Signs Of Doom a while back, and he’s been on the lookout for examples. The most recent Sarah Palin flap has given us a solid #2. To refresh your memory:

2. The Democrats start talking up “scandals” involving Republicans that wouldn’t even get you a verbal reprimand at your job if you did them.

The lefty blogs are foaming over Governor Palin’s encounter with an angry protester. Palin’s faux pas? Palin supposedly rolled her eyes when the protester said she was a teacher.  Yep – eye rolling. From the American Thinker Blog:

Is this April Fool’s day? I couldn’t believe me eyes when I read this headline on Think Progress (“When you Think Progress, think stupidity.”)

Palin laughs and rolls her eyes when demonstrator says she’s a teacher.

You are not misreading. It’s all over the lefty blogs; Sarah Palin rolled her eyes. This transgression occurred – and the video is not very conclusive – as Palin was confronted by a boorish lefist whose claim that she is a “teacher” has yet to be proved. What a monumentally stupid, inane, bogus, irrelevant line of attack. Eyebrow raising is now cause for criticism? What’s next? Shrugging the shoulders? Rubbing the forehead? Putting your hands in your pockets?

Holy mother what idiots.

It’s desperation time, folks. The Dems are flinging every piece of political poo they can find at the wall, praying something, anything, will stick. We’ve been hearing rumors of an August surprise for a while now – who wants to bet something along the lines of Rathergate is in the offing?

Nicholas Negroponte: The Physical Book Is Dead In 5 Years

The first thought that popped into my head after reading this article was, “Meh, heard it before.” I had to stop and re-evaluate Nicholas Negroponte’s article, however, as it is not my demographic his words will ring true for. People 40 and up love books. I’m in the class now. I’m not about to give up the textures, the binding and the smell of my books. It’s too much of a tactile pleasure for me! This is not the case for the whippersnappers, however, who are more than content to download an object for a mere utilitarian purpose. The young ones are more than happy to read the book, have access to it via a host of nice apps (iPad, Kindle, Nook, et al.), carry around what could conceivably amount to the Library of Alexandria in a hand-held gadget, and be on their merry way. Their perspective is far different from those of us who would be devastated at the loss of our collections should a fire rip through our homes and rob us of our little pleasures in mere moments. Perhaps the kids have the right idea with downloads. I handle it well with music. Books will take a bit more time to adjust to.

The TEA Party Transcends Race

I just received a great video from my father-in-law. Everyone speaking is intelligent, thoughtful and what the left calls minorities (or persons of color). I can best honor them by saying they represent the same colors I do: red, white and blue!

It’s a longer video, but I think very much worth watching. Alan Keyes is in attendance; however, he doesn’t speak. The lady speaking second to last strikes me as a great potential Republican candidate (knowing nothing more than what I see in the video). If anyone knows who she is, please reply and let us know.

The Ground Zero Slap in the Face

What is the purpose of the Mosque near Ground Zero.  Is it, as Imam Rauf claims it to be, a “cultural community center” for improving interfaith dialogue?  Or could it be what many believe to be a recruiting center for radical Islam?  Or maybe it will follow what the history of Islam has shown, and simply be a shrine celebrating another radical Muslim victory in it’s war against the infidels; a Western Mecca of sorts.

Proposition 8 – The California Marriage Protection Act

2) My mother’s brother, Steve, and dozen if not hundreds of my friends and acquaintances are/were homosexual (Steve died of AIDS 17 years ago)
3) I’m a straight guy who is married to a really amazing woman, we have a 16-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son.
4) Uncle Steve’s gay pals used to make comments about and toward me and hit on me.
5) By the time I was in college at UC Santa Cruz I was a huge gay rights advocate, and even dated a bisexual lady (she was only ever lesbian before we met and I think since then as well).
6) I’m in California right now visiting my mother’s sister. I’ve listened to all sorts of folks take all kinds of positions on this issue and only thought one argument was truly interesting:

Gay Marriage – Forgive Me, But What is the Problem Here?

Yes, yes, I know. I am most likely going to be blasted for riding the fence on this one.

I am a conservative Republican. I believe in lower taxes, securing our borders, and protecting our country and our Constitutional rights. I support our troops and take pride in the foundation America was built. I own guns, and I know how to aim…accurately. I want our country to thrive, I want our economic hardships to cease. I want my kids to enjoy a solid future and not owe the government for the entirety of their lives. I want Reagan to be reincarnated, dang it.

I don’t think a mosque should be built near ground zero, for the love of God, no. Not unless the planning committee behind it is willing to build within the mosque a cathedral, a temple, and a chapel to show pure diversity and offer THAT message…but I digress.

As for gay and lesbian marriage. What is wrong with it? Really.

Preserving Traditional Marriage – The Final Battle of the Culture Wars

The recent decision by a California judge to strike down Proposition 8 is the definition of an activist liberal judicial system. Marriage HAS ALWAYS been between people of opposite genders until we decided to suddenly reinvent it in the last decade or so. ‘Tis a silly thing to pretend that defining marriage as between a man and a woman is suddenly ‘unconstitutional’. What hogwash, poppycock and sheer idiocy.

The will, and common sense, of the people is now constantly overturned by liberal judges who now throw anything out that isn’t marching along with the “progressive” agenda. By this definition of the constitution polygamy should now be legal as well. And who is to say that legally barring any definition of marriage that one can now come up with should not also be considered “unconstitutional?” It boggles the mind. What a cesspool society and culture we live in that excuses anything and everything and insists on dismantling the most basic units of culture, society, and Western Civilization. Ridiculous. Marriage is by definition, tradition, and common sense, a unique relationship between a man and a woman.

Most Americans Oppose the Left-Wing’s Agenda

The title links to a great and encouraging article from the Wall Street Journal. I think it hints at a response: win back local politics and gradually take back our nation. Perhaps a great deal of the problem lies in partisan polarity. My thinking is that we should all work to have two proven people (one R, one D) who both closely approximate the statistical population center on the issues running for every office. I think we could truly restore government to the people in as little as six years. Am I naïve? Maybe, but perhaps a bit of hopeful naïveté keeps bitter and jaded people from turning the world into the dark and hopeless place they inhabit.

International Court decision could encourage separatists

John Bolton contributes an op-ed on the worthlessness of the International Court of Justice in attempting to render a decision on Kosovo’s legal status. This lack of testicular fortitude will allow other rebellious states to leave at will, since no one in the so-called ‘international community’ (of cowards) will do anything to maintain order.

I thought I’d put up a few more to help you guys pass the time:

Tenores di Bitti – Deus ti Salvet Maria

Sardinian music is rarely heard outside of its island despite having a tradition as wonderful as neighboring Corsica or even Georgia (no, not the state). These tenors perform an old Roman Catholic hymn.

Šaban Bajramović – Bubarama

Šaban Bajramović was the Frank Sinatra of the Serbian gypsy community. A tough guy, romancer, and escape artist, he was also a singer with a roughly-hewn voice only a criminal can earn. He does a number on a Goran Bregovic tune.

The Wedding Present – I’m Not Always So Stupid

Nothing like teenage romance angst. Thank God those days are over and done with. A charming little buzz-saw of a song.

Cristina Branco – Alfonsina Y El Mar

Fado is the most famous musical export of Portugal. It is a sweet, mournful style of music, fitting well with those other emotional musics coming from Iberia’s soul. Cristina Branco is one of a long line of fadistas continuing a legendary tradition.
