“Why do leftists hate social conservatives so much? Simple: because they have a ludicrous caricature in their heads of a planned Christian theocracy in which they’d no longer be able to get their pornography, abortion-as-birth-control, and PG-13 rated movies and TV shows. You think I’m kidding about this but I’m not.”

I think the negative response to Christian conservatives is alot more widespread than leftists; libertarians, moderates, mainline protestants, many Catholics, and even young evangelicals are often disgusted with the bigotry that flows from the Christian right. Particularly the long war waged against gay people by Christian right leaders has created a picture of intolerant, theocratic, backward thinking, hatemonger that will not be easy to wash away.
Young people, including young evangelicals took a sharp turn towards gay acceptance in the last decade while Christian right leadership became more intolerant, producing a steady stream of virulent and offensive propaganda against their gay neighbors. Polls show a huge generational gap between the young and the old in evangelical churches, though the gap is even wider since many disgusted young people stopped going to church altogether.
So do you also fear a “planned Christian theocracy” or are you just one who is mad that there are still some people who have an issue with officiating at a lesbian wedding, refuse to cheerlead homosexual sodomy, and are faithful as Christians to the Scriptures? Don’t worry, you can still have your PG-13 rated movie. I promise.
On a far less sarcastic note, I was talking to my wife the other day and I commented to her that the heart of liberalism (and I don’t include you Zazu in that smear) is really about nothing but abortion and homosexuality. That is the root of their hate and their ideology. For if you believe those things are wrong then you reject the heart of all the isms of the Left which all teach that man is just an animal, a shaved monkey with no true morals, values, truths, or rights and wrongs. Moral relativism, that anything goes, the philosophy of ‘do what thou wilt, eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we may die’ philosophy has devastated the country, the culture, and the family and is a rejection of the foundations of both Christianity and conservatism. It results only in moral decay and the undermining of the very foundations of Western Civilization, traditions, and religion. It is an immature, intellectually and morally bankrupt ideology that is built upon only lies. And at its very core is really only about perversion and infanticide.
Conservatism is the belief in personal freedoms, small government, economic freedoms, and the willingness to defend them. Social conservatism is an attempt to control the sex lives of citizens by the state (on behalf of the church). As such, social conservatism is both not conservative and manifestly anti-social.
Support for gay rights is not moral relativism, it is a deeply moral position based on the idea that the government can’t tell two individuals how to live and whom to love. Opposition to gay rights is morally relativistic because a bunch of people want the state to govern the sex lives of others, while resisting state influence in other areas of life. Its completely illogical and arbitrary.
No wonder the most socially conservative states are also the ones with the highest divorce rates, while gay marriage states have the healthiest marriages. People who will sic the state on someone else’s relationship, will do the same to their own.
Social conservatism is going extinct, the battle for gay acceptance is lost everywhere but the political arena. Thankfully, conservatism will be better when the theocrats are gone.
…As for banning PG-13 movies, for decades motion pictures were censored because of Christian busy bodies. To this day some of the most prominent Christian conservative leaders like Ted Baehr are calling for return to the censorship code.

“What would you like to see the film industry look like 20 years from now?”
“We support a return to the Moral Code of Decency and the vetting of all scripts for movies going to public theater and DVD retail within 20 years, if not in 3-5 years. That would probably include the elimination of all R-rated and NC-17 content as well as most PG-13 content. We also look forward to Christian/biblical hegemony within the industry. If this ministry had much more support, our progress would be that much quicker.”
Spoken like a true fascist.

You’re absolutely right there. It’s sex for its own sake, rather than for the good of reproduction, which turns men into animals rather than good husbands and fathers.
I don’t think liberals hate social conservatives, that may be too strong. They may feel sorry for them, especially the female social conservatives. Social conservatism is based on the right of males in this society to ‘control’ everything and everybody; they have the “Father knows best” mentality, based on their interpretation of scripture, and they’ve made some living hells for their wives and children because of it. Social conservatism puts the ‘what you should do’ into the conversation and hijacks the subject matter to their own belief system… Science, all philosophical views, biology, nature…well, that’s off the table.
There also seems to be a lack of compassion for the weak in this society and I don’t mean those who have a different sexual orientation (although, social conservatives feel their lack of belief made them this way and we should feel sorry for them) from those of the traditional family…What I’m speaking about are the homeless, the single mothers, the unemployed, the elderly, the physically and mentally disabled…There just seems to be an intolerance in this group and the idea that if people would have planned their lives and grew up in a better home with a strong Christian belief (whatever that is?)…life wouldn’t be so harsh and we, as a society, wouldn’t have to support them. They obviously don’t see that if we had a better social safety net, an educational system that could work better for more people and not just the ‘average’ person, that we had a fair justice system, less corruption in business, etc, etc…we may do better as a society.
I know Jesus..and Jesus, who consorted with prostitutes and the poor and helped his ‘single mother’ out after Joseph died… had a different view of the world than social conservatives. He was, in my book, ‘The Man’. I don’t think his father approved of his life here on earth…for what could a heavenly father know about the realities of a people under harsh social, biological and environmental forces. I believe Jesus and his dad had a lot to discuss upon their unification… I think we as a people have a long, long way to go on what being an ‘humanitarian’ is vs. a ‘social conservative’. I choose ‘humanitarian’…because that was the life of Jesus.
You have to read, sometimes, between the lines of scripture which was written by men…but you’ll find Jesus, the humanitarian, hidden in those passages…
and yes, I believe that progressives are much more humanitarian than our social conservative Christians. I would just say to Dave that Planned Parenthood is just that…planning to be parents and regulating how many children one can care for with birth control…abortion is not a way of birth control and it is not the primary function of Planned Parenthood, although it is a right for women to have one if they feel they cannot care for a child under the circumstances they have and Planned Parenthood is there to help women through that if that is their decision.
Birth control, for social conservatives, is just another way for women to be less controlled by males …if they only would marry a good social conservative and listen to them…they’d have a real good life. Jesus had a single mother…what her life was like after Jesus died is still quite a mystery but I’m sure it wasn’t pretty. What an awful experience to see your son tortured to death…even though she believed she would have a spiritual son afterward…there was no mention of how he may have aided in her survival after being left all alone on earth, I’d say, that’s the last she heard from him…if anything, this shows me the inner strength that women have under some very arduous circumstances. I’m sure she carried his message to others and believed she would join him some day…I hope she did but, like a lot of skeptics…I’m not really sure.
