NL’s Whale Fountain Shut Off for Sanitary Reasons according to The Day in New London, CT. In properly respectful liberal fashion, the story tells without actually saying that the huge, new and doubtless, hugely costly Whale Fountain has been turned on and filled, per plan by the city and less so by the local homeless allowed to populate the area, apparently without prior consideration of their needs for toilets. The appearance of this enormous, artistic WC in their midst received an enthusiastic response from local user-residents, likely shared by the city employees responsible for the previous tidiness of the area’s shrubbery.
The reaction of The Mighty was at once to shut off the water; we’ll have to see how things proceed. Proper liberal sensibilities toward the homeless are involved with the real world conduct of such, always a difficult political challenge. Kind of fun, though…

MarketWatch reports 33% of employers will likely drop employee health benefits in 2014 when ObamaCare hits…that’s not including the effects of those firms already receiving waivers of coverage.
I guess that, while Obama knew how to cover those 20 or 30 million new beneficiaries without increasing costs, he hasn’t provided his knowledge to employers. We’ll likely find out, since Dems aren’t going to repeal the Act and it looks like Republicans aren’t either.

U.S. Funding for Future Promises Lags By Trillions; USA Today pointed to the amount each American household owes on the Federal Government’s account. That’s in addition to any mortgage, car payment or credit cards of its own, and it’s an amount growing by the minute.
The amount your household had to provide the Feds in future taxes to pay off the U.S. debt and keep its social commitments current when the report came out: $534, 000.
If you pay over 30 years, that’s only $17,800 a year for your share. Of course, you have to pay your mortgage, car and credit cards, keep yourself fed, watered and clothed…and pay the taxes you’ve already been paying, first. And it doesn’t include any new debt.
How’s that gonna work, ya think?

Teacherpocalypse Continues: Now With More Teachers, Fewer Students
“In 2008-2009, American public schools picked up an additional 81,426 teachers. In the same period, the number of students declined by 157,426.”
Doesn’t sound much like the teachers’ unions line, does it? But it fits right in with the steady growth in U.S. cost per pupil, which has grown for decades and now leads most of the industrialized world.
