American politicians today seem to think themselves invincible sovereigns who can toy with the fates of three hundred million people and there is nothing the latter can do about it. As is to be expected, the New York Times has its collective panties in a bunch over the religious beliefs of most of the GOP presidential candidates. Funny, I don’t remember the liberal media saying much about candidate Obama’s faith – other than defending him after the Jeremiah Wright controversy hit the fan.
These vanguards of secularism would have skewered any Republican candidate who had attended a church for 20 years – but claimed to know nothing of the hate speech that spewed from the pulpit on a regular basis; so it’s not surprising that they’re doing their level best to discredit conservative candidates they fear – by attacking their respective faiths. The now adult brother and sister were so horribly traumatized by their mother in the ten years that passed before their father divorced her and undertook their raising himself that they–and he–joined in the lawsuit against her. They lost but appealed the decision.
You can’t blame them, after all they had been subjected to horrors:
Failing to take her daughter to a car show,
Threatening the 10 year old son she would call the police if he didn’t buckle his seat belt,
“Haggling” over the amount to spend on party dresses and
Calling her daughter at midnight to ask that she return home from celebrating homecoming.

I highly recommend delving into the ideas of Australian philosopher David Stove (1927-1994). For me, reading Against the Idols of the Age, an anthology of his work, was a good decision. I received inspiration, not because the book reassured me, as in “don’t worry, everything will work out just fine.” On the contrary, it paints a grim picture of the state of Western intellectual life. Rather, I was inspired because Stove lays bare many of the absurdities—the “idols” of the book’s title—that today pass for sacred, unassailable maxims. He shows that one can unravel the knot of politically correct dogma in which we are entwined, and do it in a clear, commonsense way. In a January article entitled Obama Secretly Backs Egypt Uprising, I wrote that the Obama administration had been secretly providing support to Egypt dissidents while publicly praising Mubarak as an important ally in the Middle East.

Kudos to Senator Mike Coffman for daring to go against the tyranny of political correctness in order to promote common sense. Do you realize how much paper and resources are wasted every year in order to print multilingual instructions and signs? I remember not too long ago, I bought a DIY cabinet. The manufacturers wasted FOUR pages of paper for an instruction that took one page in English because it was multilingual. That’s pathetic. If I move to another country, I would be respectful and intelligent enough to learn to read and write the language. If not, I don’t need to live in that society. The same goes for those who refuse to learn English here in America.

This world can be confusing. Just after reading of people going to jail for having child porn on their computers, this ad campaign turns up. According to the reporter, several of the pics were “too sexy” for use in the publication. Apparently they’ll be fine as ads, though. Like I said; confusing!
