A fascinating idea for getting politicians to work for the citizens instead of only for themselves popped up in a comment on EconoBrowser. James Hamilton’s Comment will take you there but here it is in a nutshell. See what you think of it:
Tie the politicians’ pay to their results the same way private enterprise managment is handled. Instead of profits, tie them to average GDP or maintenance of dollar stability in place of inflation. You could do the same with a lot of the bureaucrats, too. Brilliant idea, really. Pols wouldn’t stand for it, though…just like teachers considering being rated on their students’ performances. Reality is fine for us but it doesn’t suit them!
