McCaskill’s Choice Goes Down

UPDATE: I am very ticked to have to report that Todd Akin, who’s campaign thus far in Missouri has been financed by the McCaskill campaign according to reports is refusing to step down. The national Republican National Committee has withdrawn all financing for Akin’s efforts. No doubt McCaskill’s campaign will as well. I guess this is one office for which many people in the Show-Me-State will not vote.

Little known outside of the Mississippi River Valley is the little political tidbit that Senator Claire McCaskill’s choice to run against her was Todd Akin, more or less because she and her team thought they could beat him.

I don’t know that a misstated quote on rape that’s going to lead to him pulling out of the race is what they had in mind.

If he’s done nothing else productive while being vice president, Joe Biden has taught us that having a gaffe machine is the gift that keeps on giving. We on the right rejoiced in that, since he was on the other side. Put such a gaffe machine on OUR side, where teeny, tiny mistakes are magnified and blown out of proportion, and the spinning shark tank that’s popped up around Akin makes serious discussion about any topic impossible. Because for them, it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

This is not to diminish any kind of condemnation of rape. Rape is a crime of aggression and dominance where the victim is forcibly subdued, demeaned and humiliated, never mind violated. In war times and among peoples who conquer other peoples, it is used as a tool to control and mentally defeat the losers. There’s no way around the wrongness of such a crime, regardless of the sex of the victim or the perpetrator. Victims suffer in more ways than physically. Children do result from forcible rape from time to time. If God did not want that child to exist, he or she would not. Advocates of allowing such children to be killed simply because they are there, forget that this person is innocent, and that his or her mother is far more likely to suffer post traumatic stress disorder, depression and worse due to the killing of her child than the rape.

Congressman Akin was making a point that if rape was the only exception to a moratorium on killing children in the womb that women would be screaming “rape” any time there was an inconvenient pregnancy in order to terminate it. How is that any more just? False accusations of this sort ruin men’s lives and shouldn’t be any more acceptable than forcible rape. Akin said it badly, and it set off a firestorm that was waiting to happen. If he’s going to make this sort of mistake on a vital issue like life and death and crimes of dominance, what other mistakes is he going to make? Will he be the gift that keeps on giving for the left? That thought alone is enough to look forward to a different candidate for U.S. Senate out of Missouri.

Claire has to go, but it looks like she was right. Akin, who chose to live in the alternate reality, way out, no imagination, made-up township of Wildwood just wasn’t up to the task. Mistakes of that magnitude just are not survivable.

  1. If the conservatives have learned nothing, they should have learned that as long as we have a far left media, everything they say will be scrutinized unfairly. Therefore we need to be more diligent about what we say….unlike Uncle Joe whose gaffes, sometimes humorous often vile, will get a lifelong pass. Akin should have known better…he needs to go. Fair? No. But hey, that’s Liberals for you. Great article.
