It’s time to dump the Constitution. Hey, why not? I mean – hell – the U.S. Constitution is a crusty old out-of-date document that was written and ratified more than 225 years ago by rich white guys who owned slaves. How on earth could they have foreseen the whims and desires of present-day “progressive” America? How can an archaic, over-simplified set of rules properly address the demands of 21st-century atheists, the LGBT crowd and Barack Obama?
The answer: It can’t. Or says the New York Times. Their solution: Let’s give up on it. After all, wouldn’t life be much simpler? Instead of being forced to circumvent our country’s founding document whenever he disagrees with Congress or existing law, the Dictator-in-Chief could start from scratch and rewrite America’s laws, bill of rights and anything else as he see fit. Besides, think about how easy it would be for progressive judges, labor unions and the ACLU. No muss, no fuss.
From our pals at the New York Times:
Our obsession with the Constitution has saddled us with a dysfunctional political system, kept us from debating the merits of divisive issues and inflamed our public discourse. Instead of arguing about what is to be done, we argue about what James Madison might have wanted done 225 years ago.
As someone who has taught constitutional law for almost 40 years, I am ashamed it took me so long to see how bizarre all this is. Imagine that after careful study a government official – say, the president or one of the party leaders in Congress – reaches a considered judgment that a particular course of action is best for the country. Suddenly, someone bursts into the room with new information: a group of white propertied men who have been dead for two centuries, knew nothing of our present situation, acted illegally under existing law and thought it was fine to own slaves might have disagreed with this course of action. Is it even remotely rational that the official should change his or her mind because of this divination?
Two points of observation before we continue: It’s laughable that smug liberals must always remind us of their unique insight and importance to the world – as if their “superior intellect” justifies or rationalizes their irrational and/or immoral line of reasoning. Second, as is often the case with left-wing elites, this jackass feels the need to ridicule and mock those with whom he disagrees – apparently believing that by doing so he somehow increases the validity of his groundless argument. In this instance, it’s the Founding Fathers who couldn’t possibly match wits with the modern American liberal loon.
One can only speculate as to what the present-day state of the union would be were this clown and his brilliant comrades to have written the Constitution.
More from our favorite left-wing rag:
What has preserved our political stability is not a poetic piece of parchment, but entrenched institutions and habits of thought and, most important, the sense that we are one nation and must work out our differences. No one can predict in detail what our system of government would look like if we freed ourselves from the shackles of constitutional obligation, and I harbor no illusions that any of this will happen soon. But even if we can’t kick our constitutional-law addiction, we can soften the habit. Continue reading…
Unbelievable. On so many levels. But, wait – don’t radicals – be they Nazis, Communists or Muslim extremists - always tear up their respective countries’ constitutions when they seize power?
Sorry, clown; you and your ilk haven’t defeated us quite yet.
Interesting – and ominous – how this delusional fool believes that whatever current “habits of thought” exist at a given time should prevail over a set of steadfast guiding principles that have kept America the freest and most prosperous country in history for more than two centuries. Shudder the thought that the “habits of thought” of the left could determine a new rule book for a country that continues to be the model for the world.
Secular progressives have worked relentlessly to diminish the influence of Christianity in America for decades. They have done their damnedest to change our moral code and corrupt our character to the point that we tolerate being ruled by people who despise America and all that it stands for. But it’s not enough for them; they want all the marbles. And they’ll stop at nothing to get them.
Even to the point of finally saying out loud: It’s time to dump the Constitution.
