Anthony Watts Thrashes Al Gore’s Climate Change Experiment

Replicating Al Gore’s Climate 101 video experiment shows that his “high school physics” could never work as advertised

Readers may recall my previous essay where I pointed out how Mr. Gore’s Climate 101 Video, used in his “24 hours of climate reality”, had some serious credibility issues with editing things to make it appear as if they had actually performed the experiment, when they clearly did not. It has taken me awhile to replicate the experiment. Delays were a combination of acquisition and shipping problems, combined with my availability since I had to do this on nights and weekends. I worked initially using the original techniques and equipment, and I’ve replicated the Climate 101 experiment in other ways using improved equipment. I’ve compiled several videos. My report follows.

First. as a refresher, here’s the Climate 101 video again:

I direct your attention to the 1 minute mark, lasting through 1:30, where the experiment is presented. Read the rest of this entry

Nutjob Gore: Denying Global Warming is the Moral Equivalence of Racism

IT’S OFFICIAL, FOLKS: ALBERT ARNOLD GORE, JR. IS A PSYCHOTIC LUNATIC

Before I go off on Prince Albert, let’s begin with a simple multiple choice question:

Which of the following is the most frightening?

A. Gore charging that denying global warming is morally equivalent to racism.

B. Gore’s appearance in the video. (bulging eyes, red face, manic body language)

C. This wing-nut psychotic almost became President of the United States.

D. Damn, Rat; ALL OF THE ABOVE.

As arrogant, hypocritical, and intransigent as liberals can be, there is one characteristic they all seem to possess; they’re the gift that keeps on giving…

Will Aliens Destroy Mankind Over Global Warming?

NASA WARNS OF PREEMPTIVE STRIKE; AT LEAST AL GORE WOULD BE HAPPY
Acting on a tip from Al Gore, aliens destroy humanity

Al Gore may finally get his wish after all. A recent report from NASA warns that aliens may launch a preemptive strike against mankind if we fail to reduce greenhouse gases, which the report suggests might just be cause enough for ET to go all Armageddon on us.

What the hell has Barack Obama done to NASA this time? (In 2010, Captain Awesome redefined the space agency’s mission as “reaching out to the Muslim world.“)

Debating the Global Warming Loons

Teach Our Children Well?

Our Children, the Climate Change Plaintiffs

The regulatory aims of the EPA to curb CO2 emissions;  the continued push for carbon cap and trade legislation;  and, the ongoing attempts by the international body politic to arrive at an operating framework to address climate change, all of these are now joined by our children’s efforts to get the judiciary to act to protect the planet.   Well, maybe not your child or mine, but some youths throughout the country are now plaintiffs in various lawfare battles intended to obtain from the courts what climate change activists cannot seem to accomplish through the legislative and regulatory processes.       Read the rest of this entry

Not Evil Just Wrong: Irish Filmmaker Confronts Al Gore & Eco-Hypocrisy

Kudos to Ann McElhinney for taking on the hypocritical eco-weenies. Love this interview with Stephen Kruiser on PJTV.

Excerpt:

Q: Is high speed rail kind of like the “race card” for climate change hysteria, to shut off all debate?

A: … The car is in the DNA of Americans. … People get in their cars, have this feeling of the highway, and take off– I’m not waiting for the 405 from wherever– I not waiting for a train that leaves at 10:00 and hope to get to wherever I’m going. No, no…I get in my car and go off on my own.
Obama likes the idea of trains because trains “train” you to think collectively, cause you suddenly are in group think… you have to be timetabled and controlled.
The idea that you’re going to replace the car in America with a train is nonsense… Hands off the cars, there, Obama, you know? Enjoy it yourself…

Now that’s the fighting Irish spirit I’m talkin’ about.

Dave’s Quote of the Day

[Ixchel is] the goddess of reason, creativity and weaving. May she inspire you — because today, you are gathered in Cancun to weave together the elements of a solid response to climate change, using both reason and creativity as your tools…

…Excellencies, the goddess Ixchel would probably tell you that a tapestry is the result of the skilful interlacing of many threads. I am convinced that 20 years from now, we will admire the policy tapestry that you have woven together and think back fondly to Cancun and the inspiration of Ixchel.

-Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, invoked the ancient jaguar goddess Ixchel in her opening statement to delegates gathered in Cancun, Mexico

I, For One, Welcome Our New Pedantocratic Overlords!

Ah! Vindication is sweet. Just eight months after the ClimateGate scandal hit the news, the Global Warming community rolls up the last of three investigations, all of which show nothing untoward occurred. First, the University Of East Anglia, ground zero in the big leak, investigated the University Of East Anglia and determined that nobody did nothing wrong. Then Penn State, home of Hockey Stick Michael Mann, investigated Penn State and found that Penn State was blameless. Now “The Independent Climate Change E-mails Review”, commissioned (and paid for) by – The University of East Anglia – has decided the flap was all a tempest in a tea pot.

Well, that’s a relief!

Now that we’ve swept all the messy scandal stuff under the academic carpet we can get to the real problem: Democracy!

Obama’s EPA Approved candle

Hey all.  I’m, glad to be here.  I don’t normally post an awful lot.  I’ll kick it off with an observation that I think is the perfect example of what exactly Obama has in mind for our future.  I stumbled across this on a clandestine mission a few days ago:

Obama's EPA approved candle

Not to be confused with a jar of blood, it’s a candle. It’s wax. It’s only wax. There is no wick. It does not burn. It does not emit light. It is a zero-carbon footprint candle. Now, I was assured this was most likely a screwed up attempt at a real candle, but I know better. I’m much too fast to pass that test. This is some company’s shot at the federal candle market. It fits perfectly into the EPA’s new no-carbon standards. Now, although I have no factory, I will offer anyone who wishes to have the Obama EPA approved candle for $19.99. Sure, it’s a little pricey for a candle, but in order to meet EPA’s new no-carbon standards, extra effort has to be made to remove the wick. Not sure how much shipping and handling will be as I’m not sure any shippers can meet the new no-carbon standards yet. But, somehow, for some cost, I will get it to you. Promise. I’ll bill you for whatever I want to charge after you get it.

Critics Give U.N. Climate Researchers an ‘F’

“The IPCC deserves every stroke of its ‘F’ grade,” Miller told FoxNews.com. “Not only is the data used in the report flawed and suspect, but even more egregiously, the IPCC authors — very few of whom indeed are scientists — refused to consult with scientists who are skeptical of the IPCC’s defining hypothesis: that the Earth faces a crisis from rising global temperatures and that human activity played a significant role.”

“The authors’ closed minds are a trait typical of propagandists, not scientists,” he added.

Indeed. I’m hoping that more people will wake up to this hoax and let their congresscritters know of their disapproval of proposed legislation that’s going to serve nothing other than bankrupting the country and making the scammers rich.

I have always heard that history repeats itself because no one listened the first time around, and today I have found additional evidence to support that claim.  Scroll through some of the Time magazine covers, specifically from 1976-1980 and take a look at the headlines, the people, the concerns of the day.  From socialism to the war on terror – it’s all there in vivid color.  I recommend starting here and moving forward for a really interesting look at, well…  Time.

Say it isn’t so.  It looks as though there is some more evidence pointing towards climate change – or more specifically, how it has affected the economy in the U.K.  Maybe there is something to it/in it for me after all.  I have been so blinded by the evidence that I have completely ignored the financial opportunities that abound.

I Will Definitely Call It A Religion

Previous posts have highlighted the similarities between the adherents of AGW and religion. Indeed, it should be unsurprising that the two have so much in common. All of the utopian movements and catastrophic chicken-little crusades use religious language and typologies. This is because these movements stem from the same human desire and satisfy the same human needs, as religion does.

Two months ago in the United Kingdom,  a court ruled that the belief in man-caused global warming  is equivalent to a religious belief, and as such is protected by law. The ruling had few defenders, as neither the Christians nor the global warming crowd wished to be associated with the other. The Christians objected to having AGW believers raised to their level, while the latter group protested being lowered to it.

But it was the plaintiff himself who saw the danger in all this. Tim Nicholson, who had brought suit after losing his job as the Head of Sustainability for a UK residential firm, won when the judge rejected claims by the defense that AGW couldn’t be a religion because it could be proven by scientific data. Nonsense, said the judge. AGW was clearly a “philosophical,” rather than scientific, belief. But “This isn’t some new religion,” protested Mr. Nicholson, unwittingly undermining his winning legal strategy. “This isn’t a faith-based belief, but a belief based on overwhelming scientific evidence.”

I have no doubt that Mr. Nicholson sincerely believes that the science has “proven” his beliefs to be true. I also have no doubt that Christians are absolutely positive that their view is correct, just as are Muslims. All of these beliefs Read the rest of this entry

Behold the Gore-sicle.

Yet another reason to love Alaska.  Story found here . . .

A hole in sky is closing and now we are going to freeze!

Those of us who remember the seventies, okay the seventies when you weren’t in college, will recall that we were warned that there was a global COOLING coming!  In fact a Mini Ice Age was likely. Well the frost is here my friends. The Brits are freezing their buns off and some there fear a nat gas shortage. China may have factories shut down due to the cold. Stock up on OJ because the orange crop is dying. Oil and nat gas are going up, which is bad unless you own royalties or live in Alaska. The thermometer on my porch reads -4 degrees and it is 10:30 am here in beautiful Centennial, Colorado.

There has long been speculation about the ozone hole over Antarctica. Is it there? Was it there? Why is or was it there? Well there is this guy in Canada, and they know cold up there, who thinks there is a hole in the sky caused by CFCs and it has been closing. That is good right? Well maybe.  It seems CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons ) were all that was holding back the frost.

A peer-reviewed study by a respected Canadian physicist blames the interplay of cosmic rays and chlorofluorocarbons for 20th-century warming. The CFCs are now gone, and so is warming — perhaps for the next 50 years.

Professor Lu seems to be saying, if your humble messenger reads him right, that the environmental movement solved global warming without knowing they were doing it when they got the CFC restrictions passed. Neat trick that!

“Most remarkably, the total amount of CFCs, ozone-depleting molecules that are well-known greenhouse gases … decreased around 2000,” Lu said. “Correspondingly, the global surface temperature has also dropped. In striking contrast, the CO2 level has kept rising since 1850 and now is at its largest growth rate.”

Is it just your humble messenger or doesn’t this underline the validity of the law of unintended consequences? This time it might have worked in our favor. What about next time?

This Just In! Republicans to blame for Global Warming Skepticism!

Washington (CNN) — A rise in skepticism among Americans over global warming is mostly due to changes among Republicans, according to a new national poll.

Of course it has nothing to do with the British, the Russians, or the rest of the world catching a glimpse of those leaked documents.

More at the church of all that is news.

Global Warming Data Manipulated All Along?

ClimateGate – Climate center’s server hacked revealing documents and emails.

Britain’s Climate Research Unit, University of East Anglia, suffered a data breach in recent days when a hacker apparently broke into their system and made away with thousands of emails and documents. The stolen data was then posted to a Russian server and has quickly made the rounds among climate skeptics. The documents within the archive, if proven to be authentic, would at best be embarrassing for many prominent climate researchers and at worst, damning.

The contents of the emails and data seem to be authentic, but I will withhold judgement until verified.

The emails contain an array of discussions including what appear to be concerted efforts to withhold data. Just as troubling is conversations that allude to potentially manipulating climate data to “hide the decline” of temperatures seen in the last decade.

Will be checking for further confirmation. If true, this will blow a hole right through the climate change consortium.

Update: The story is gaining more traction as the day progresses.  It has been picked up by the New York Times along with some other major publications.  And as always, Anthony at wattsupwiththat.com has a pretty good read on one of the major issues coming to light.

When smoothing these time series, the Team had a problem: actual reconstructions “diverge” from the instrumental series in the last part of 20th century. For instance, in the original hockey stick (ending 1980) the last 30-40 years of data points slightly downwards. In order to smooth those time series one needs to “pad” the series beyond the end time, and no matter what method one uses, this leads to a smoothed graph pointing downwards in the end whereas the smoothed instrumental series is pointing upwards — a divergence. So Mann’s solution was to use the instrumental record for padding, which changes the smoothed series to point upwards as clearly seen in UC’s figure (violet original, green without “Mike’s Nature trick”).

The plot thickens.

What Happened to Global Warming?

Does anybody know? And if they find out will they let Al Gore know?

What Happened to Global Warming?

Consider it a cataclysmic event: Mainstream news organizations have begun reporting on scientific research that suggests that global warming may not be caused by man and may not be as dire and eminent as alarmists suggest.

Indeed, as the BBC’s climate correspondent Paul Hudson reported, the warmest year recorded globally “was not in 2008 or 2007, but 1998.” It’s true, he continued, “For the last 11 years, we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.”

Gore Wins Oscar, Nobel Peace Prize For Slide-Show Presentation

The slide show, which features approximately 80 full-color pictures of landforms and people, as well as a vast array of detailed line and bar graphs, proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that a successful visual presentation must utilize both an application’s audio and graphic capabilities. Furthermore, Gore effectively silenced many of his critics by incorporating short videos.

“The Nobel Committee was deeply moved by Mr. Gore’s passion for making a clear, concise, easy-to-watch slide show,” Professor Geir Lundestad, director of the Nobel Institute, told reporters in late October. “[The slide show] truly displayed how well-placed transitions—be they dissolves, wipes, or splits—can really tie a presentation together.”

Added Lundestad: “Also, the slides with multi-image animation were cool.”

Antarctica’s ice story has been put on ice « Watts Up With That?.

Where are the headlines? Where are the press releases? Where is all the attention?

The ice melt across during the Antarctic summer (October-January) of 2008-2009 wasthe lowest ever recorded in the satellite history.

Haven’t seen this in the MSM yet?

But this time around, nothing, nada, zippo from NASA when their ice melt go-to guy Marco Tedesco reports that Antarctica has set a record for the lack of surface ice melt (even more interestingly coming on the heels of a near-record low ice-melt year lastsummer).

So, seriously, NASA, what gives? If ice melt is an important enough topic to warrant annual updates of the goings-on across Greenland, it is not important enough to elucidate the history and recent behavior across Antarctica?

Can a “planned recession” help?-Climate Change

‘Planned recession’ could avoid catastrophic climate change – Telegraph.

I’m with Professor  Roger Pielke Jr.  on this one.  Is a “planned recession” really a selling point?

At the moment the UK is committed to cutting greenhouse gases by a third by 2020.

However a new report from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research said these targets are inadequate to keep global warming below two degrees C above pre-industrial levels.

The report says the only way to avoid going beyond the dangerous tipping point is to double the target to 70 per cent by 2020.

This would mean reducing the size of the economy through a “planned recession”.

Kevin Anderson, director of the research body, said the building of new airports, petrol cars and dirty coal-fired power stations will have to be halted in the UK until new technology provides an alternative to burning fossil fuels.

“To meet [Government] targets of not exceeding two degrees C, there would have to be a moratorium on airport expansion, stringent measures on the type of vehicle being used and a rapid transition to low carbon technology,” he said.

Prof Anderson also said individuals will have to consume less.

Quote of the week #20 – ding dong the stick is dead « Watts Up With That?.

I hardly know where to begin in terms of commentary on this difference.

- Steve McIntyre, Climate Audit in Yamal: A “Divergence” Problem

The graph above shows what happens to the “Hockey Stick” after additional tree ring data, recently released (after a long and protracted fight over data access) is added to the analysis of Hadley’s archived tree ring data in Yamal, Russia.

All of the sudden, it isn’t the “hottest period in 2000 years” anymore.

Really.  You mean that  cherry picking of data may have been occurring?  I am *shocked*.  Combined with a convenient loss of data, one might think that the whole global warming theory may be on shaky ground.

Re: The Era of Transparency

So we are faced with a massive retooling of our entire manufacturing infastructure and a takeover of the entire health system which accounts for perhaps one-sixth of the economy.  Additionally, Joe Biden hints last Sunday that we may need yet another stimulus bill to continue to jump start the economy.  At the same time, California is issuing IOU’s like Lloyd and Harry did in the movie Dumb and Dumber because the liberal Republican governor massively increased spending throughout his term oblivious to the consequences of such behavior!

At this point we should be saying to ourselves, “perhaps the Dave approach isn’t so bad.”  Now I know PG and DFV scoff at the grass roots conservatives and all or nothing partisans like our friend Dave, but it is now clear that the Obama machine can only be stopped by them.

The GOP is impotent.  Moderate conservatives haven’t the stomach to utilize the tactics of the left.  It’s up to the Becks, Limbaughs, religious right and their supporters to fight the most massive government encroachment in American history.

During this time there will be nothing but fawning praise and adulation for the ever “historical” deeds of the Chosen One.  The fourth estate has cravenly sold out to Obama without so much as a wimper.  The media now broadcasts hour-long specials dedicated to helping a politcal party push it’s health care agenda.  And while the hen house gets ransacked by the coyotes, the dogs are leashed and the shotgun is still in the closet.  Can someone please wake up ma and pa?

In a surprisingly well done report CBS postulated…

The e-mail correspondence raises questions about political interference in what was supposed to be a independent review process inside a federal agency — and echoes criticisms of the EPA under the Bush administration, which was accused of suppressing a pro-climate change document.

That deserves a resounding “YA THINK?” The CBS article needs to be read in full. It has fun little tidbits like this…

“I was told for probably the first time in I don’t know how many years exactly what I was to work on,” said Carlin, a 38-year veteran of the EPA. “And it was not to work on climate change.” One e-mail orders him to update a grants database instead.

For its part, the EPA sent CBSNews.com an e-mailed statement saying: “Claims that this individual’s opinions were not considered or studied are entirely false. This Administration and this EPA Administrator are fully committed to openness, transparency and science-based decision making. These principles were reflected throughout the development of the proposed endangerment finding, a process in which a broad array of voices were heard and an inter-agency review was conducted.”

Carlin has an undergraduate degree in physics from CalTech and a PhD in economics from MIT. His Web site lists papers about the environment and public policy dating back to 1964, spanning topics from pollution control to environmentally-responsible energy pricing.

Didn’t somebody mention transparency?

Your humble messenger’s snippets: How climate change, historic legislation, tax loopholes, wealth transfer and million dollar green jobs are all related!

MiracleCartoonDoes anyone wanna buy a pig in a poke?

June 26 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama prodded lawmakers to approve a “historic” bill to limit greenhouse-gas emissions as part of intensifying lobbying efforts for a vote in the U.S. House that could come today.

…Obama, in his public comments, called the measure “absolutely critical” to ensure a clean-energy economy that would help the U.S. “be the nation that leads the 21st century global economy.” He also predicted “a close vote” on it.

June 26 (Bloomberg) — America’s biggest oil companies will probably cope with U.S. carbon legislation by closing fuel plants, cutting capital spending and increasing imports.

“It will lead to the opportunity for foreign sources to bring in transportation fuels at a lower cost, which will have an adverse impact to our industry, potential shutdown of refineries and investment and, ultimately, employment,”

AXcess News – Washington – President Barack Obama vowed to close tax loopholes on foreign investments Monday, even going so far as to threaten banks with action if they didn’t cooperate in identifying American foreign investments.

The Democratic administration of President Obama will pursue American businesses and individual taxpayers who use foreign loopholes in investing abroad to avoid paying federal income taxes.  The move will affect major US companies such as Caterpillar.

“Historic” climate change bill more of the same

Everything related to President Obama seems to be classified as “historic.”  I suppose spending more money than the combination of all other Presidents will earn that moniker.  Now we are getting a new pill to swallow in the form of climate change legislation.  But if history is any indicator, there is nothing that governments can do but repeat the tried and true policies of failure.  The formula is simple:  1) Outline a cause that appeases your supporters 2) call the impending legislation you are pushing “historic.”  3) Create a plan that does nothing but throw red meat to the special interests and campaign contributors 4) Attach billions of dollars in earmarks while infecting the bill with unfunded mandates and disincentives for productivity.  The result?  Change baby!  Here are some details of what I mean:

1 & 2:  Outline a cause that appeases your supporters; call said plan “historic”

President Barack Obama on Tuesday urged Congress to pass “historic legislation” to fight global warming, prompting his fellow Democrats in the House of Representatives to aim for a vote on Friday on the bill to reduce industrial emissions of carbon dioxide.

3: Create a plan that does nothing but throw red meat to the special interests and campaign contributors

Supporting that effort, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced that the government had awarded its first leases for offshore wind development off the Atlantic Ocean coasts of New Jersey and Delaware.

4: Attach billions in earmarks and load it up  with unfunded mandates

In pushing companies to reduce their carbon emissions, the climate change bill would encourage the use of alternative energy such as solar and wind, while promoting technologies to capture and store emissions from coal-burning plants.

Nearly $8 billion in Energy Department loans were announced to help automakers retool plants so they can build more fuel efficient vehicles, including electric cars and autos with improved gasoline engines.

Update: In retrospect, I’m not sure Obama knows what an unfunded mandate is. . . unless that means mandating that creditors don’t get investments back.

I am just your humble messenger.

Some climate and carbon news from our English speaking brethen!

Britain’s only wind turbine plant to close

The UK’s only wind turbine manufacturing plant is to close, dealing a humiliating blow to the government’s promise to support low-carbon industries.

Vestas, the world’s biggest wind energy group, said today that it would close its Isle of Wight facility, which employs about 700 people and makes blades for wind farms in the US.

The group had planned to convert the factory in Newport so it could make blades for the British market, but said this morning that the paralysis gripping the industry meant that orders had ground to a halt. Such low demand could not justify the investment, Ditlev Engel, the chief executive, told the Guardian.

Not in my back yard you nimby S.O.B.

Engel said the weakness of the pound had also had an effect, making it more expensive to build wind farms in the UK, but the major problem lay in planning application.

“It is extremely time consuming and extremely complicated. Some of our developers, customers, will tell you it is so difficult. In the UK nimbyism is a huge challenge. This is outside of Whitehall territory.

“People talk about big offshore parks. Why not put in onshore parks? The cost of installation is half compared to offshore.”

This a real drag (I know – I’m sorry) because these technologies are needed to pull us out of our recession/depression/BDS.

Bureau blows hot and cold over Antarctica warm-up as Bureau of Metereology backs down from a claim that temperatures at Australia’s three bases in Antarctica have been warming over the past three decades

Well with only two choices you can get confused…

“You were told explicitly that the data collected by the Bureau of Metereology at the Australian bases shows a warming for maximum temperatures at all bases, and minimum temperatures at all but Mawson.”

However, Professor Turner told The Weekend Australian the data showed a cooling of the East Antarctica coast associated with the onset of the ozone layer from 1980 onwards. Professor Turner said the monthly mean temperatures for Casey station from 1980 to 2005 showed a cooling of 0.45C per decade. In autumn, the temperature trend has been a cooling of 0.93C per decade.

“These fairly small temperature trends seem to be consistent to me with the small increase in sea ice extent off the coast,” he said.

Dr Watkins did not dispute the figures referred to by Professor Turner.

Your messenger just reports folks.

NZ glacier findings upset climate theory.

Not to be out done the Kiwis get in on the act…

Glaciers are sensitive indicators of climate changes, usually advancing when it cools and retreating when it warms.

The first direct confirmation of differences in glacier behaviour between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, the new work topples theories based on climate in the Northern Hemisphere changing in tandem with the climate in the Southern Hemisphere. The research argues that at times the climate in both hemispheres evolved in sync and at other times it evolved differently in different parts of the world.

Dr Barrell said their research presented “new data of novel high precision”, though the team has so far chosen not to roll out wider interpretations too quickly.

Newt to Waxman: The Government should not be punishing the American People

YouTube – Newt Battles Rep Waxman (D) On Global Warming.

Senator Waxman:  ”Mr. Gingrich, I am sure glad you’re not in charge of foreign policy.  Do you think the only way to incentivize the country is by offering them more and more carrots.  You have got to have some threat and sometimes you have to say incentivize you, we are going  to give you some assistance, but there are going to be  consequences.”

Mr. Gingrich: ” Mr. Chairman, I don’t think of American citizens the way I think of foreign dictators.  And I don’t think this Congress should punish the American people.  I think this Congress has every right to reward the American people, but I don’t think Lincoln’s government of the people, by the people, for the people should be turned into a government punishing the people..”

What a farce this whole Waxman-Markey Global Warming Bill/Earth Day party testimony turned out to be.  It seems as if the old “If you’re not with us you are against us” policy is being  recycled by the liberal democrats for use on “climate change” policy.  But getting the bill through the House in it’s current form will never happen.  Dems are already hedging their bets.

Earth day: so the self-important can feel good

An Infidel babe of the day?

An Infidel babe of the day?

I despise being told what I should care about and I hate the notion that someone elses alarmist rhetoric is my problem.  That is why I hold earth day and global warming nutjobs in rational contempt.  Perhaps the greatest marketing coup over the past decade has come from the Al Gores of the world convincing us all that we are in immenent danger from environmental catastrophe.  Somehow they have managed to convince the self-loathing western democracies that their behavior needs to change.  In reality, they are convincing the west to commit political, social and economic suicide.  They are impolitely asking the west to step aside so the third world can assume the role of polluters, population boomers, and economic leaders.  And why?  Because we should have some guilt complex associated with our polluting habits.

But the reality is often quite different from the truth.  I would say that the environmental stewardship of our own ‘Farmer Dave’ or fisherman Hairy Beast is equal to that of the self-annointed nannies.  And despite the notion that only aggressive economic engineering at the hands of the social democracies of the world can save mother earth, I believe that capitalism has done quite well.  Consider the following editorial in IBD:

Buried beneath all the badgering and fear-mongering about lavish Western lifestyles is a reality that the stuck-on-green left won’t talk about and the average American isn’t aware of: The world, especially in developed nations, is a cleaner — and greener — place than it was when the environmental movement began.

Every year Steven Hayward, a scholar at the Pacific Research Institute and the American Enterprise Institute, compiles his Index of Leading Environmental Indicators. And every year, his findings contradict the alarmists’ warnings that the world is on the edge of environmental cataclysm.

From evidence “that tropical rain forests may now be expanding faster than they are being cut down” to the improving health of U.S. ocean fisheries to better outdoor air quality in American cities with the worst air pollution, Hayward shows there’s more to be optimistic about than there is to be troubled about.

The Environmental Protection Agency has also published its own Report on the environment. Last year’s report, the most recent, indicates outdoor air quality has improved, there’s been a net gain in wetland acreage, public-source drinking-water problems are uncommon and forest land is expanding after declining for a century.

Despite the gains, the dupes will still feel angry at capitalism because a hurricane strikes some coast.  They will still volutarily sit in the dark for an hour just to prove they can.  They will still believe that creating stagnation in western economies will keep the poor polar bears alive.  And they will still celebrate a ‘Holy day’ that teaches children what they should already be taught at home: throw away your trash, be a good steward of all things, and play nice.

Happy earth day suckers!

The Ice Sheet is Breaking…The Sky is Falling…The Roof is on Fire

wilkins

News that the Wilkins Ice Sheet in Antarctica was shattering bounced around the news and the blogosphere during the past few weeks. This earth   ice shattering announcement led U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to pronounce

With the collapse of an ice bridge that holds in place the Wilkins Ice Shelf we are reminded that global warming has already had enormous affects on our planet and we have no time to lose in tackling this crisis

Expect the MSM to continue to bang this drum during the build up to the Climate Conference in Copenhagen scheduled for December.  The  EPA announcement today brings us one step closer to climate change legislation.  You can count on some new regulations being slammed through Congress before December to “prove” to the world that we have seen the light (and plan to turn it off!)

But take another look at that Wilkins news.   It seems as if the shocking photo posted by The Guardian is the exact same photo used in an article by MSNBC

almost one year earlier.

One might think so what, even if the photos are the same, they still show the ice shelf breaking away.  True, but maybe the cause is not the warming of air…

In the media reports shown at the start of this document, the recycled picture shows shear failure of the ice slabs indicating that it is not caused by melting due to warming in the air – the weakness of the ice shelf structure is from thinning ice due to warmer local sea temperatures below.

This is an annual event caused by the warmer sea water flow in this part of the Antarctic peninsula.  Check out the Wilkins link and draw your own conclusions.  Who is running the con game??

The 99 Most Memorable, Interesting and Outrageous Political Quotes of 2008

The year 2008 was politically the most exciting and unusual in a generation. It hosted a long, divisive and drama filled campaign season that featured the rapid rise and fall of Rudy Guiliani, Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee, the unlikely rise of John McCain and Barack Obama, and the eventual bitter defeat of Hillary Clinton. It brought us an unusually long and brutal primary with emotional charges of racism and sexism, the rise of the Superdelegate, and the explosion of Sarah Palin upon the national stage. All of this was followed by a rough and tumble presidential campaign whose outcome may have never been truly in doubt but was still a never ending soap opera of charges, counter charges, personal attacks, character assassinations, rumors, smears and the occasional, unexpected surprise.

2008 also also brought us a huge spike in gas prices, more political scandals, a mortgage and credit industry in a state of panic and a sitting president who was almost completely politically powerless in the face of such challenges. Rarely does such an alignment of events occur in a single year and the resulting deluge of memorable political quotes is a goldmine for the blogger, columnist, political junkie, and all those who follow current events. Without further ado I present to you my selection of the 99 most memorable, interesting, and outrageous political quotes of 2008.

Weather Channel Fires Entire Environmental Unit – During “Green Week”.

Sometimes the worst thing you can do to a person is give him what he wants.

For decades the Anti Nuke crowd clamored for Disarmament and an end to the East/West cold war standoff, but when it came they found themselves with no reason to get out of bed in the morning to not bathe and not shave. The money hose got turned off. So did the media hose.

Now, Global Warming cultists who were so discombobulated by high temperatures throughout the 1990′s are facing the stark reality that as the mercury falls – so goes their careers.  They wanted the globe to cool and they are getting their wish. One would think this would be good news, but no.

From the WaPo via Drudge:

NBC Universal made the first of potentially several rounds of staffing cuts at The Weather Channel (TWC) on Wednesday, axing the entire staff of the “Forecast Earth” environmental program during the middle of NBC’s “Green Week,” as well as several on-camera meteorologists. The layoffs totaled about 10 percent of the workforce, and are among the first major changes made since NBC completed its purchase of the venerable weather network in September.

The timing of the Forecast Earth cancellation was ironic, since it came in the middle of NBC’s “Green Week,” during which the network has been touting its environmental coverage across all of its platforms. Forecast Earth normally aired on weekends, but its presumed last episode was shown on a weekday due to the environmentally-oriented week.

Forecast Earth was hosted by former CNN anchor Natalie Allen, with contributions from climate expert Heidi Cullen. It was the sole program on TWC that focused on global climate change, which raises the question of whether the station will still report on the subject. Cullen’s future role at the network is not known.

Cullen, you should remember, is the Global Warming Guru at the Weather Channel who called for the firing of Meteorologists who publicly disagree with AGW. She’s still got her job for now, however her future prospects look pretty – what’s the word…?
