The Best Deal We Could Get

It’s Liberal Looney Tunes Time!

A VERITABLE CORNUCOPIA OF SILLINESS FROM THE LEFT

It’s once again time for another episode of Liberal Looney Tunes, folks. So kick back – pop a squat – and, as always, wait for your head to explode. It’s only a matter of time.

Let’s check in with our left-wing pals and see what sorts of nonsense they’ve been up to recently, shall we:

Weiner and Edwards: Stuck on Stupid

OH HOW HARD THEY FALL

- So the Weiner fits after all, huh? What a shock. Admitting that he has had “several inappropriate conversations with women online,” Anthony Weiner tried his best to put an end to Weinergate this afternoon. Good luck with that, Congressman.

Weiner fessed up that he had indeed tweeted a bulging-underwear photo of himself to a young woman. “The picture was of me, I sent it,” he told a roomful of reporters. Asked why he initially claimed that his Twitter account had been hacked, Weiner basically said that he was a weenie: “I panicked, and took it down and said that I had been hacked.” Read the rest of this entry

Banned From Cannes.

After this news, we are instituting some required viewing…

Interrogating a hostile witness is like proposing marriage. You want to get it right the first try. So you don’t settle until you find the perfect spot. You take special care to set the right ambiance and set the mood. And then you wait for the best moment to pop the question.

So it has been revealed by the Associated Press that bin Laden was using couriers to transfer his email messages via usb drives carried to and fro.

Chap Hop

Just for fun…

Courtesy of Wired, I’ve discovered a new genre of music–chap hop, which is hip hop reimagined as the pastime of bored English gentlemen. Here’s one of the original works, by Mr. B (aka the Gentleman Rhymer) with his send-up of NWA, “Straight Out of Surrey”:

And the response to it by Professor Elemental:

Carry on.

Parental Guidance Suggested

If you haven’t read the headlines lately, but are the parents of young kids (especially daughters) you already know that Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” is out.  Far be it for me to ruin this blog by even mentioning the Bieb, and I expect my name shall disappear from the masthead forthwith, but it sparked a conversation at the homestead about the fine line of responsibility parents have between being the friend or parent.  Suffice it to say, the comment was made that “It’s tough, because I want to be the cool parent but feel like this is one of those areas where I need to be the concerned parent.”  Of course my response was “that’s fine – you can be the cool one, but not me.  I want to be the one that when the kid is out with my daughter he stops several times throughout the evening and thinks ‘dude, that guy is psycho’.” Read the rest of this entry

Corporate America

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DWVnrsrv4o

Who can stop de-evolution of the human race?
Look at you, Corporate America, you’re in disgrace
Globalize; cigarettes, business jets, you love it
Maximize; but you can take your bottom line and shove it

Gotta get away (gotta get away)
Gotta get away, but I need a little help tonight
What ‘ya gonna say (what ‘ya gonna say)
What ‘ya gonna say when you’ve never even seen the light
See the light

Corporate America, look out, look out
Corporate America, who’s gonna save us, who’s gonna save us now?

You and I; DVDs, SUVs and cyberspace
Flying blind, virtual reality is in our face
This Earth desecrated by the human race
Now what’s it worth? When do we evacuate to outer space?

Corporate America, look out, look out
Corporate America, who’s gonna save us, who’s gonna save us now?

I see the future in the past
the reckless ride of modern man, Just took the corner way too fast,
Flattened everything that stands
Fooled by the sales pitch for progress at a dizzy pace
We idolize the filthy rich for giving us synthetic taste
Computer calls, urban sprawl
Is the world a better place, is the world a better place?

Fare thee well, global extinction’s forever
So what the hell, order your Mercedes in leather
Veal crates, ozone holes, and toxic waste
And don’t count out religious hate
Who can survive this man-made fate?

Gotta get away
Gotta get away, and I need a little help tonight
What ‘ya gonna say
Wha ‘ya gonna say when you couldn’t even see the light
See the light
Yeah!

Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am Named Director At Intel

This is interesting. The idea is fascinating on a public relations platform and I am curious to see what tangible benefits unravel.

The Palin Follies

It looks like people want to see more about Sarah Palin’s personal life. Unfortunately the scandal du jour involves her daughters being baited into an inflammatory Facebook dialogue in which they act like…teens! TMZ is trying to characterize this as homophobia. If you visit their site beware that it tries to take over your browser (go there now). The facebook dialogue sounds so much like a couple of girls from up here in the Rockies that I can barely detect anything but typical teenageness (yep, I made that word up–feel free to use it!).

No, America, Bristol and Willow are not ready to be media consultants. They are ready to go to school. Sadly the kids of a politician are always enrolled in the school of hard knocks when their parent submits a candidate filing.

Lateral FAIL: Dallas Cowboys at Minnesota Vikings

I saw this live yesterday and have been looking for the videoclip of this last desperate attempt ever since. I was surprised they not only didn’t show an instant replay, but they didn’t mention it on “The OT” show immediately following the game. I knew it contained at least six laterals, and was amazed that all but the last was caught.

But I did not remain disappointed for long, as someone finally posted it on YouTube, complete with the “Benny Hill” treatment it so richly deserved.

Constitutionality, Christianity, Progressivism And The Captive Poor

I wrote this in an email the other day and everyone told me to publish it, so here it is with very minimal editing.

We, the people, must recognize that our two major parties have been co-opted at their highest levels. They no longer prove themselves to support the Constitution. Instead they advance agendas that should deeply concern anyone who understands what our constitution says and why.

John Adams once said, “Our constitution is only fit for a moral and religious people. It is wholly unsuited to the governance of any other kind” because the Constitution contained no controls over those who would reject morality and decency in favor of hedonism and self-indulgence. It also contains no controls, talis qualis, that are, or ever would be, strong enough to defeat progressivism which seeks to ignore it (or for that matter Sharia law which would supplant it). Only the vigilance of a stubborn and well-informed citizenry can do that!

Sex Education, Social Engineering, Progressive Politics And The Rainbow Agenda

I personally home schooled my daughter through 7th grade and my son through 6th. She is positioned to be the valedictorian of her school next year and hopes to go into law or medicine. As an 11th grader, she claims to be the ONLY virgin she knows of in her entire high school (of over 1000 students). Her 8th grade brother is an honor student taking both regular and advanced classes despite profound dyslexia. He, too, is proud to be a virgin. Referring to his classmates, he says “most of them” are sexually active. What difference did an abstinence-based (home schooling) curriculum make in their lives? I believe it made all the difference! By far the best place to give children a healthy understanding of the proper role of sex in their lives is in their own homes.

The Race Card Is Maxed Out

I’m not a fan of Jon Stewart (but I think he’s less of a boor than Bill Maher and in general is more entertaining) but every now and then he surprises me with a satirical gem aimed at the left.

Heck, if Jon gets it (and more importantly brings attention to it), that can’t be good for the other team.

Just some bizarreness that was emailed to me today, but may likely go viral. Well, the Giant Squirrel-riding Chewbacca shooting at Nazis (with a crossbow, don’t forget), anyway.

George Steinbrenner

George Steinbrenner just died at the age of 80.  The Obama administration was quick to point out it was due to a heart he inherited from a previous administration.  In the meantime, here are two of my favorite Steinbrenner moments:

Apropos Nothing

I was hesitant to post this, and maybe that was that little voice inside that says I shouldn’t, but 1) being without Internet connectivity for a week so I couldn’t contribute, and 2) seeing the explosion of posts during that time– y’all are on fire! :-) It’s gonna take me awhile to read all of them, and 3) I’m out of ideas unless I post links to Betty White’s SNL appearance, which BTW, it you haven’t seen is worth your Saturday-Night-Live-haven’t-watched-them-anymore-since-they-used-to-be-funny boycott.
I haven’t been inspired by anything lately that y’all haven’t picked up on already, and more.

Plus I wanted to post before Independence Day, so as not to “soil” our revered day.

Bottom line, it’s silly but I hope most of you will laugh, at least starting half-way through. And it’s not for faint ears. Many “F” bombs dropped among other bad language, so don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I have always heard that history repeats itself because no one listened the first time around, and today I have found additional evidence to support that claim.  Scroll through some of the Time magazine covers, specifically from 1976-1980 and take a look at the headlines, the people, the concerns of the day.  From socialism to the war on terror – it’s all there in vivid color.  I recommend starting here and moving forward for a really interesting look at, well…  Time.

Ayla Brown – Pick It Up

Meet the Browns. Dad is a colonel in the National Guard, posed nude in Cosmo, and is now the newly elected US Senator from the state of Massachusetts. Mom is a TV reporter and was featured in a movie video in the ’80′s. Daughter Ayla Brown was on American Idol in season five and has now released a new song and music video. And I hear from a trusted source that she is ”available.” Quite the family. I feel like my life is really boring after taking a peek into theirs. Maybe I need to get out more or take up a hobby… This video would be better if it didn’t look like something a friend shot in the living room to put on her myspace page while they were taking a break from painting the garage. She should have brushed her hair or something. The song is fairly tolerable though.

Must Watch Movies: Moon

Moon Shot

It’s Time To Go Back To Duncan Jones’ Moon – Moon – io9.

I guess movie-making is always a form of madness — it has to be, given how huge an undertaking it’s become. But usually it’s the madness of Hollywood power-mongers struggling to turn an incoherent digital rampage made up of branded content into another money spout. To explore the DVD of Moon is to witness another kind of madness at work — the madness of the small science-fiction auteur, and that in turn gives you a greater appreciation for the madness that Sam Rockwell embodies on screen.

What a film.  It is too bad it slipped through theaters without much fanfare.  It ranks as one of the best Sci-fi movies I’ve seen in a while and certainly ranks as the best of last year for me.  The tension running throughout reminds me a lot of the original Alien or perhaps Outland…all for a budget of 5 million dollars.  If you haven’t seen it, rent it soon.

Hello, My Name is…

Four score and 285 days ago (give or take a few), our nation elected someone they thought they knew.  Today, not so much – but not to worry.  All (or at least some of it, digitally enhanced and re-packaged to fit the format of your screen) will be revealed, when he gets a chance to re-introduce himself to the American public. I can hardly wait.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Let’s just say they were not kidding about the blood part…

As a passionate student of history I have always been interested in the story and life of the rebel slave, Spartacus. A man who shook Rome to the core yet a man we know fairly little about. Yet a legend has grown around his motives and actions and history has remembered him while forgetting countless others. Last night Starz debuted (to mixed reviews) an original series Spartacus: Blood and Sand which I made time to watch. It is produced by Robert Tapert and Sam Raimi who, a decade ago, gave to us Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess.

That’s Some Audacity

I heard on the radio this morning that Mr. Obama blames the recent Massachusetts election results on voter anger.  This anger is not just present day anger for the last two years, but it’s more than that.  Apparently it’s anger over the past 8 years.

As a non-elitist, I am sure I totally missed the meaning in that statement.  What I heard the president say was that in order to stick it to George W. Bush, Massachusetts voters elected a Republican.  I am certain that is not what he meant.  But it does beg a few questions. . .

Friday Night Not so Punk: Editors-Papillion

Set the DVR for ‘Community’

New to the fall lineup this season is a witty and funny comedy starring the Soup‘s Joel McHale.  Since reality television seems to be going by the wayside and premium channels on cable are drawing ever larger shares of sitcom viewers, the traditional networks have had to come up with better shows to compete.  This is one such show.  Watch the teaser and you can catch the two or three shows you have missed on Hulu or NBC.com.  Then set the DVR.

Hey, like you know, it could have happened to anyone. Roman Polanski on stumbling into rape.

polanski chinatownI know now it was, it was not the right thing to do,” he said at the time. “But I was, there was no premeditation, you know, it was something that just happened.

Roman Polanski – Explaining how raping a 13 year old girl after plying her with alcohol and drugs was not intentional. Sure Roman. What is more outrageous is this B.S. here regarding Polanski’s detention in Switzerland…

“Seeing him alone, imprisoned while he was heading to an event that was due to offer him praise and recognition is awful. He was trapped,” French Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand said at a news conference Sunday. “In the same way there is a generous America that we like, there is also a scary America, that has just shown its face.”

Mitterrand said French President Nicholas Sarkozy is paying close attention to the case and that the French consulate may try to visit with Polanski today if allowed.

“I’m offering my support to Polanski as a French citizen and as the minister for culture. Justice has been denied to him many times in his life, and beauty is something that he has brought though his films,” he said, calling Polanski a “wonderful man” and “one of the greatest directors of all time.If the world of culture does not offer its support to Polanski, then that would mean there is no more culture in this country.”

WOLVERINES!

I think I like the films that are a little less popular.  I wasn’t crazy about Ghost or Red Dawn and I thought To Wong Foo was sub-par.  But The Outsiders and Road House were very entertaining.  And who in my generation doesn’t watch Dirty Dancing when it makes its occasional appearance on TNT?

R.I.P. John Hughes

John Hughes’  films seemed to capture the essence of growing up in the 80′s.

At the time, and to the older critics of the day, Hughes’s ability to offer a slice of teen life without scripted and contrived drama didn’t seem all that special. But for the generation of young people who grew up watching Molly Ringwald blow out candles and Ally Sheedy recoil during detention, the lack of obvious plot was the whole point…

From Ringwald’s patented pout to Ferris Bueller’s unapologetic truancy, the beauty of a Hughes movie was the way it reflected the languid teen spirit without moral judgment.

I feel lucky to have grown up during the 70s and 80s.  My generation may be the last generation of kids who enjoy the innocence of youth…before the explosion of all things media.    Thank you John Hughes for putting it all on film.

Update: For an insight into John Hughes the man, take the time to read this blog post from Allison Byrne Fields.

Tonight, when I heard the news that John had died, I cried. I cried hard. (And I’m crying again.) I cried for a man who loved his friends, who loved his family, who loved to write and for a man who took the time to make a little girl believe that, if she had something to say, someone would listen.

Thank you, John Hughes. I love you for what you did to make me who I am.

Fart breaks up council meeting

Time for some levity. And who better to post this one than the female of the group.

You know how kids crack up when they hear a fart. Well, so do adults — at least they did at the Medina City Council meeting in Ohio earlier this week.
In fact, they just couldn’t keep it together, so they had to call a recess.

Watch the video and see for yourself.

Yeah, so it’s likely from a cellphone/iPhone/whoopie cushion.
Whatever.

Paul Harvey – “Good Day”

Are there any among us who didn’t grow to love the tales woven by Paul Harvey?  I can say that I never turned the radio off when I heard the words “Hello Americans. . .”  If  I was in the car and I arrived before the story was over I would sit in the car until I heard the signature sign off (Paul Harvey. . . Good day!) and then I would feel like it was okay to turn off the car.  The stories that involved the famous and the infamous always had the effect of making me feel like the extraordinary was possible by the ordinary.  As his stories wound to their inevitable ‘feel-good’ conclusion, I was often able to guess who he was talking about.  But far from being let down, I always found the story to continue to be captivating.  I still found the tales of Abraham Lincoln or FDR or John Lennon or Thomas Edison great even when I knew who he was talking about.  And his rundown of daily news and jargon with the trademark declarations of the pages that he was reading from was always entertaining.  And although his voice was still strong, it was easy to tell that he was beginning to fade.  You can almost hear the signature sign off as he passes to the ages.

Remember 1997?

Remember 1997? If you have forgotten, here is a quick list of events from 1997-

  • Hong Kong was returned to China from the U.K.
  • Mike Tyson bites Evander Holyfield’s ear during boxing match
  • O.J. Simpson found guilty by civil jury in deaths of Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman
  • The song “Bittersweet Symphony” by the Verve goes #1
  • The closing low for the DOW Jones average in November was 7286

Why am I reminiscing about 1997?  Because the DOW Jones closed today at 7365, only 79 points above that November low of 1997.  Over a decade of gains in the market have been obliterated (minus dividends).   At this point, there seems to be no bottom in sight.

It’s not just that fact that the markets have dived to these decade old levels, but the rate at which it has happened.  Paul Volcker today described the current situation as the  “Mother of All Financial Crisis”.

I don’t remember any time, maybe even in the Great Depression, when things went down quite so fast, quite so uniformly around the world…

Jim Cramer illustrated the staggering losses of capital today on his Real Money blog.

The declines are so staggering that you find yourself thinking only one thing: How could we have ever trusted these pieces of paper with our nest eggs? Plus, the “terminal” value of some of these stocks, such as BAC, C, AIG, is catastrophic. They aren’t coming back

In the past, whenever everyone started to throw the baby out with the bathwater, it was time to cowboy up and start putting one’s money to work.  This just feels different and it seems as if there are so many macroeconomic hurdles to clear before we see light at the end of the tunnel.  The “stimulus” plan and “homeowner” plan are only patches that are delaying the inevitable market bottom.  We need to find that bottom, and fast, or we just may find out that there isn’t one.

Obama Reads Bush’s Letter

Saw this on a blog I frequent, and it made me giggle.

Glenn Beck: America’s Newest Voice of Reason

I’ve listened to Beck’s radio show for years when I could.
I caught his TV show on Headline News a few times (but otherwise don’t tune in to CNN, so I often missed it), and was ecstatic when I learned the FOX News Channel picked him up.
He started a week ago Monday, and he’s been a breath of fresh air.
Finally! Someone who asks the tough questions and holds feet to the fire. Witness Part 1 of his interview of Gov. Blagojevich last night. (Part 2 was aired tonight. I’m sure the link will be available soon online.)

Beck has a genuine, honest, raw, funny, sarcastic, and disarming style that I’ve always admired. And it’s way too rare among TV personalities, especially conservatives.

If you agree, do likewise and contact FOX News to praise them for adding Beck to their lineup.

Keep up the great work, Glenn!

Reflections on Gran Torino

I miss my grandparents.  I feel fortunate to have grown up as a young child in the 1970′s still being able to see them in a real American setting.  The setting was not idyllic nor glamorous.  It was real.  They were real.  He was a WWII hero, she was one of last riders of the infamous orphan trains.  With each passing year, I appreciate them more and more.  I appreciate that house where the flag always proudly flew.

They lived in north Denver throughout my young life at a time when the neighborhoods were transforming from predominantly Italian ones to the current Mexican ones.  To be certain, the ethnicities are each unique and carry with them their own cultures and stereotypes.  Both groups have a proud heritage that shows in the small shops, restaurants and churches.  I think my grandfather would have been content to simply have the neighborhood remain Italian.  I think they often felt helpless at some of the demographic changes that occured around them.  But through it all, my grandparents steadfastly remained in that small, well kept house on 35th amidst all the changes.

I think Walt Kowalski also felt helpless too.  Walt is not real in the traditional sense; although he is as real as you or I.  Walt is the person that Clint Eastwood portrays in the movie Gran Torino.  Walt is a Korean War hero who has seen his urban Detroit neighborhood transformed from the “all-American” haven for returning vets of the 1940′s and 1950′s to a gang-infested hotbed of inner city turmoil.  Like many men of his generation, I think Walt probably felt a deep sense of pride.  Pride in his work as an auto assembly lineman.  Pride in the nation he defended.  Pride in having a wife and kids and a small plot of land he could call his own.  Through it all he rarely bitched about that work or boasted about that service or doted on those kids.  He clocked in and clocked out, drank the same beer for decades (PBR) and went to church because his wife wanted him to.

So when the changes occuring around Walt begin to confront Walt, he is understandable frustrated.  He speaks in the plain words that the men of his generation spoke; language that enlightened liberals of today would deem intolerable.  They would wrongly believe that Walt was evil for lamenting the “zipperheads,” “slopes” or “gooks” that have moved in around him.  They would demand sensitivity training for Walt because he has contempt for the “spooks” or “beaners” that harass others.  He lives by the rules and expects others to do the same.

Everyone should see Gran Torino not because it is a good movie with a nice message.  They should see it because it gives a healthy glimpse at what is becoming of American cities today.  They should see what fatherless households are turning our society into.  They should see the vets that still proudly fly that flag.  And they should come to see Walt.  And get a look at the man I knew as grandpa.

The 99 Most Memorable, Interesting and Outrageous Political Quotes of 2008

The year 2008 was politically the most exciting and unusual in a generation. It hosted a long, divisive and drama filled campaign season that featured the rapid rise and fall of Rudy Guiliani, Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee, the unlikely rise of John McCain and Barack Obama, and the eventual bitter defeat of Hillary Clinton. It brought us an unusually long and brutal primary with emotional charges of racism and sexism, the rise of the Superdelegate, and the explosion of Sarah Palin upon the national stage. All of this was followed by a rough and tumble presidential campaign whose outcome may have never been truly in doubt but was still a never ending soap opera of charges, counter charges, personal attacks, character assassinations, rumors, smears and the occasional, unexpected surprise.

2008 also also brought us a huge spike in gas prices, more political scandals, a mortgage and credit industry in a state of panic and a sitting president who was almost completely politically powerless in the face of such challenges. Rarely does such an alignment of events occur in a single year and the resulting deluge of memorable political quotes is a goldmine for the blogger, columnist, political junkie, and all those who follow current events. Without further ado I present to you my selection of the 99 most memorable, interesting, and outrageous political quotes of 2008.

“Declaration of Dependence”

The latest from my man Alfonzo.

I’m a girl, so I can post stuff like this.

I first saw a reference to the puppy cam at CuteOverload, but had trouble with the link (I’m sure it was just my ‘puter).

Anyhoo, Ms. Hill over at RealTechNews has posted the same, and I think we could all use a little dose of cuteness right about now (and anytime we feel the need to reach for the duct tape, as Glenn Beck would say).

Oh, here’s one more. Cuteness begins around 1:30 into it.

Ur so gay. . .

Many of you know that I am a high school football coach in Colorado.  My team is now in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs which isn’t the biggest deal unless you are a big high school football fan; like my friend.  This buddy of mine is a guy who has big-time football knowledge and generally loves the game.  He and I have coached the sport together and separately since we were 20.  If my team is in a big game, he is usually there analyzing the game.  When he coached a team to the state finals, I did the same.

There is one other minor detail to his football obsession: it has lately been replaced by an unhealthy obsession of the performing arts.  Musical theater is his drug of choice but he also dabbles in symphonies, plays, museums and such.  So when I called him to let him know that my game was Friday night at 7:00 p.m., he politely informed me that he would be attending the opera.  No you read it correctly. . . the opera.  Keep in mind, he missed an earlier game between us and the #1 team in the state to go to the symphony.  On a Friday night.  In the fall.

Here’s to you DFV.

A look back through cartoons.

You can vote however you like

This is a refreshing change from the eerie and weird songs of worship and indoctrination that adults make kids participate in.  These middle school kids in a debate class at Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta cleverly created a bi-partisan song set to the tune of T.I.’s Whatever you Like.  I love seeing relevant educational opportunities for students that involve technology or music.  Enjoy as you get out to vote!

Go Redskins! For More Reasons Than One ;-)

I had forgotten about this little “phenomenon” until I received this in email today…

We’ve been talking about getting a group together to watch the Redskins play the Steelers on Monday night. There seems to be some presidential folklore surrounding the Redskins home
game prior to election day. In every presidential election year (except 2004), the Washington Redskins home game prior to election day has accurately predicted the outcome of the national presidential election.
If the Skins (being the home team) win, the incumbent party maintains control of the White House. If on the other hand the Skins lose, the opposition party gains control of the presidency. Though it may be a strange concept, it was perhaps the most accurate bellwether for 70 years and 17 elections. So if this folklore holds true — if Washington wins– McCain becomes president. If the Redskins lose, Obama becomes president. So come out and join us for some fun, and cheer on the Redskins or the Steelers.

Info on Monday night’s Game:

* Kick off – 8:30 PM

* The 2 presidential candidates are planning to participate in
one-on-one interviews via satellite that would air at halftime of
“Monday Night Football,” the day before the election. ESPN’s Chris
Berman will do the segments earlier on Monday, if the candidates’
schedules permit, and they’ll air at about 10:15 p.m. EST.

* The game, between the host Washington Redskins and the
Pittsburgh Steelers, will be the first NFL game played in the D.C. area
on the Monday night before a presidential election in 24 years. The
Redskins defeated the Atlanta Falcons 27-14 on Nov. 5, 1984; Ronald
Reagan was re-elected the following day.

Here’s the history:

Nov 1, 1936 – Chicago Cardinals at Boston Redskins (Original franchise) (Win 13-10) – Roosevelt (D) Wins

Nov 3, 1940 – Pittsburgh Pirates at Washington Redskins (Win 37-10) – FDR (D) Wins

Nov 5, 1944 – Cleveland Rams at Washington Redskins (Win 14-10) – FDR Wins

Oct 31, 1948 – Boston Yanks at Washington Redskins (Win 59-21) – Truman (D) Wins

Nov 2, 1952 – Pittsburgh Steelers at Washington Redskins (Loss 24-23) – Eisenhower (R) Wins

Oct 21, 1956 – Cleveland Browns at Washington Redskins (Win 20-9) – Eisenhower Wins

Oct 30, 1960 – Cleveland Browns at Washington Redskins (Loss 31-10) – Kennedy (D) Wins

Oct 25, 1964 – Chicago Bears at Washington Redskins (Win 27-20) – LBJ (D) Wins

Oct 27, 1968 – New York Giants at Washington Redskins (Loss 13-10) – Nixon (R) Wins

Oct 22, 1972 – Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins (Win 24-20) – Nixon Wins

Oct 31, 1976 – Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins (Loss 20-7) – Carter (D) Wins

Nov 2, 1980 – Minnesota Vikings at Washington Redskins (Loss 39-14) – Reagan (R) Wins

Nov 5, 1984 – Atlanta Falcons at Washington Redskins (Win 27-14) – Reagan Wins

Nov 6, 1988 – New Orleans Saints at Washington Redskins (Win 27-24) – Bush (R) Wins

Nov 1, 1992 – New York Giants at Washington Redskins (Loss 24-7) – Clinton (D) Wins

Oct 27, 1996 – Indianapolis Colts at Washington Redskins (Win 31-16) – Clinton Wins

Oct 30, 2000 – Tennessee Titans at Washington Redskins (Loss 27-21) – George W. Bush (R) Wins

Oct 31, 2004 – Green Bay Packers at Washington Redskins (Loss 28-14) – George W. Bush Wins *

* For the record, the last cycle broke the pattern. Green Bay beat Washington at Fedex Field on October 31, 2004. George W. Bush went on to win his second term.

I’m not the superstitious type and always root for my beloved Redskins, but a little extra reason to doesn’t hurt, I say. :-)

Yo, listen up, liberals!

[Update: D'oh! Sorry for the double-post, Dave. I see you already covered this one in September. (rolling eyes at self!) ]

This fella knows what he’s talking about!

Take about 10 minutes and watch this guy. He has taken every spittle-flecked rant Mr. Mo and I have ever spewed forth over the last 15 years and distilled them down into 9 minutes and 46 seconds of personable and entertaining brilliance.

Forget John McCain and his fuzzy centrist politics; I want this guy for president! (regardless of how he wears his hat ;-) )

A little levity

Our friend Eric over at Tigyrrrr Express sent me an email that ended with this. I don’t think he would mind me sharing this part with all of you.

…We live in a dangerous and sobering time, and my blog does cover the seriousness of life
from the financial markets to the Presidential Debates.

However, I included some of my more nonsensical columns solely to entertain.

May God bless you all, and whether left or right, may your lives be filled with peace,
love, harmony, and of course…laughter.

I think we could all use a bit of levity and a little laughter. Not to mention peace, love, and harmony. He is a talented blogger and my greatest example that conservatives have a good sense of humor and outlook on life as well. He was always my second favorite blogger behind The Hairy Beast, but apparently THB is too busy fishing and spending time with his kids to entertain me at the moment. There is no doubt that his numero uno position is definitely in jeopardy.

O.J.’s unlucky number

Yesterday, O.J. Simpson was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping (and ten other charges). The jury deliberated 13 hours after a 13 day trial to deliver a guilty verdict exactly 13 years to the day after his acquittal in the murders of his ex-wife and her boyfriend.

If I were O.J. I would lay low the next time Friday the 13th rolls around.

Say it isn’t “D’oh!”

In an episode of ‘The Simpsons’ slated to run November 2, Homer Simpson will vote for Barack Obama…

Color me surprised not, but still…wah! Now I can’t watch The Simpsons anymore!

Why Barack Obama’s Refusal To Take Public Funds Was The Best Idea Ever

HuffPost: On Tuesday, Obama donors were informed that Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel will join the Democratic nominee for his “last event in the Tri-State region before the election,” at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Best potential moment of this pairing? I say teaming up on Only The Good Die Young. What say you?

Shine on You Crazy Diamond

I’m beyond sad that we lost a very special visionary musician. Rick Wright, keyboard magician for Pink Floyd and original co-founder of the band, passed away yesterday from a brief battle with cancer.

Thank you Rick for the wonderful legacy of music you have left us to cherish. Shine On Brother.

In German no less… who thinks this stuff up? Another “don’t miss” video.

Friday Night Punk – Sarah ‘Barracuda’ edition

Okay so perhaps Heart isn’t of the punk genre but they are just as groundbreaking and revolutionary.  This is perhaps their best song and should be a staple over the next two months.  Coincidentally, Ann Wilson wrote this song after a media controversy.  Apparently some overzealous reporter for Rolling Stone accused the sisters of having a sexual relationship.  Incensed, Ann returned to her hotel room and wrote Barracuda to relieve her frustration.  Imagine that?! The media blowing stuff out of proportion to create a story!

My first youtube video – Meet Sarah Palin

My post Meet Fred Thompson’s wife, Jeri Kehn  was an unexpected huge hit and I never did make it into a youtube video but I should have. There is now tremendous interest in McCain’s pick for veep and I thought I would try to make an easy to make youtube video about her to see how it turned out. Let me know what you think.
