Report from a Colorado Caucus

Newtney on the Bounty

Not only is the GOP torpedoing their ship that’s supposed to come in this year, they are steering it directly into the Obama Port of Second Call.  Is this how we shore up the Conservative base or win the Moderates and Independents?  This intense implosion within the Republican party gives fodder to the Obama campaign — a gift in video sound bites.

Obama clearly cannot run on his record.  One of the few arrows he does have is to vilify the ultimate GOP candidate — but alas the Republicans are doing a bang up job of handing him the full quiver.  If Newt is the candidate, Obama runs excerpts of Romney’s campaign against Newt.  Ditto if Romney wins.  Read the rest of this entry

Full Video – 2012 CNN Republican Presidential Debate Jacksonville, Florida 1-26-12

Mitt Romney has been feisty the last two debates and Newt Gingrich has not capitalized on his South Carolina primary win momentum to lock up Florida and really put Romney on the ropes. Gingrich is drawing huge crowds at campaign stops but Florida is a big state with a large population and it may not be enough for him to grab Florida’s ‘winner-take-all’ delegates. Rick Santorum has been handling himself better lately but he is still really only an “also-ran” in this race and Ron Paul is, well, Ron Paul… What do you think? Enjoy the debate.

Dave’s Quote of the Day

“Iran is building a bomb, Syria is murdering its citizens, and the economy is crashing. Yet NBC wants a debate where Republicans attack each other for making money legally. This debate is nonsense and Republicans should stop doing debates on leftist networks. Waterboard Bryan Williams and let’s end this nonsense. It’s like Obama wrote these questions. Republicans never learn.”

The Art of Accusation: Politico’s Gutless Smear of Herman Cain

Dave’s Quote of the Day

Of course he is right, and this is how Romney will be portrayed if he is the GOP candidate.

“He has no core. You know, he was supportive of doing things like a cap in trade agreement. Now he doesn’t think that, you know, climate change is real. He was to the left of Ted Kennedy on gay rights issues. Now he wants to amend the constitution [on] gay marriage. He was an extremely pro-choice governor. Now he believes that life begins at conception. You get the sense with Mitt Romney that, you know, if he thought it was good to say the sky was green and the grass was blue, to win an election, he’d say it.”

How much more can go wrong?

Ron Paul: Ideologue

I really tried to like Ron Paul, I really did. Despite my best efforts, and after much deliberation, the attempt must be declared a failure.

Part of the reason is purely subjective. The man gives me the creeps. The immediacy of it reminds me of my reaction to Obama, who also caused a gut feeling of revulsion the first time I laid eyes upon his likeness. Obama radiates the personality of a thug and a charlatan; Paul, in contrast, resembles a cartoon character, a cross between Casper the Friendly Ghost and Elmer Fudd. Oh, and that voice, that constant whining. It is not endearing. Read the rest of this entry

A Speech for Paul Ryan (or Any Republican) for Medicare

A Speech for Paul Ryan (or Any Republican) for Medicare.

Paul Ryan & His Medicare Plan

- I am not a republican. I am an Independent. Why? Because the Republicans keep doing things that tick me off. Mostly, because they are such wusses. But I support them because I can’t support the Democratic Party. Last presidential election, I sat contorted in my chair, squirming and telepathically sending McCain the right things to say. But he never said them. Hell, he never put up a decent fight. As Obama delivered lie after lie, skewed fact after fact, McCain seemed to stand above it all. Like he was too much of a gentleman to fight in the dirt. Now, I can respect that- but not when we are losing our nation. It’s time to get down and dirty. Now, Paul Ryan & his plan are under rabid, lie filled, sarcastic and ugly attack. And what do the Republicans do? They scuttle, like so many rats, under the bed! Republican politicians, hear this: You will lose office and this Nation if you do not get a back bone! The people in this country are on your side- but you are blowing it! Where is our Republican candidate? Where is the Republican message? You need to pay for commercials and you need to get it together as a party. You cannot, I repeat, cannot make YOUR personal election your priority. You need to keep the House, get some Senate seats and get the Presidency. John Boehner, provide leadership to your party! Whip them into a cohesive unit! At the very least, the Republicans need to be GLIB! You have so much ammunition to kill the Dems on so many issues all Americans will rally behind! I’m not sure why you brought up Medicare right before election time, but since you have, you may NOT retreat or you will lose. You need to come out with your fists up. Take the bull by the horn! Since none of you seem capable of writing a speech or saying what needs to be said, I have done it for you.

Here is what the republicans (especially Paul Ryan) should be saying concerning Medicare… continue reading

Former governor of New Mexico Gary Johnson has announced that he is running for president. He is a fiscal conservative and social moderate. He thinks that the money and resources spent on questionable wars would be better spentic domestically, he is for legalization of marijuana and amnesty for illegals. His fiscal responsibility seems sincere enough and that is what we really need. He ought to downplay the drug legalization and amnesty issues if he is going to be a contender. I do predict that he will do better than Ron Paul who I think will do better than he did last time around.

Allen West’s keynote speech for CPAC 2011

Representative Allen West

Representative Allen West R-Fla

Representative Allen West (R-Florida) gave the closing speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on February 12, 2011. Here’s what he had to say.

He introduced an Army Sergeant, a veteran of Iraq, who trains those who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

He talked about the difficult campaigns where Republicans won the House majority while having to contend with unreasonable accusations.

He pointed out that he had been called “The Worst Person in the World” 5 or 6 times (presumably by Keith Olbermann), and then with a little smile he said “And he got fired for it!”

He said “I believe that we are standing on the verge of the dawn of a new America, if we adhere to those fundamental Conservative principles, and those Consitutional ideals.”He quoted Alexis de Toqueville: “While democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”

The next part of his speech involved what he called the “pillars of conservatism.”

First pillar: Effective and efficient conservative government.

  • He quoted Thomas Jefferson: “Most bad government results from too much government”), which is why next week Congress will cut 100 billion dollars of spending off of the federal budget.
  • Making people more dependent on the government has to end, so hard decisions must be made. “We cannot continue on with the policies of behavior modification through excessive taxation and over burdensome regulation…and that’s why we’re going to be cutting from the EPA.” (wild cheering)
  • If health care is so great, then someone explain to me why over 200 Democrat political groups are going to the President and asking for waivers.” Here was a great quote: “I say this to the President: The good things in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act: closing the doughnut hole, making sure that we take care of people with the preexisting conditions, keeping our young kids on our insurance, I can probably fit that in five to ten pages. It’s the other two thousand four hundred ninety pages with eleven new taxes, a hundred fifty nine new government agencies and beauracracies, and sixteen thousand new IRS agents, that the United States of America does not want!” (standing ovation)
  • He mentioned the financial meltdown in 2008 and blamed it (rightfully so) on government interference with the private sector.
  • He talked about reforming the individual tax code, cutting the corporate business tax rate from 35% down to 20%, eliminating capital gains taxes and dividends taxes, capping federal spending at 18-20%, developing a balanced budget amendment, and eliminating “redundant, failed, and duplicitious federal government programs and agencies.”

Second pillar: Peace through vigilance, through resolve, through strength.

  • He mentioned the famous Edmund Burke quote, one of my personal favorites: “All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”
  • He quoted Sun Tzu: “To know your enemy, and to know yourself, and to know the terrain or the environment, in countless battles, you will always be victorious.”
  • And then he made the most important statement of the night: “Peace begins with courageous leaders who are willing to identify and define our enemy, and their objectives, because political correctness has no place in our national security strategy.” (the crowd screamed and another standing ovation ensued)
  • He said he was appalled that the Fort Hood shooting was treated like workplace violence.
  • He said “A new America, a secure America, means that we can ill afford to have a twenty-first century Sir Neville Chamberlain moment.”
  • He said “And yes, yes I do have a problem with granting American Constitutional rights to terrorists while we attempt to and have imprisoned our own warriors for killing terrorists.” (another standing ovation – there were so many during this speech)
  • Here’s another money quote: “The dawn of a new America means this: Secure our borders and enforce our laws. Recognize the emerging threats on the Korean peninsula. Recognize the threats that are coming out of South and Central America. And confront the radical Islamic non-state, non-uniformed belligerents who transit freely across borders, killing and promoting a seventh century ideology that is anathema to the values of America and to Western civilization.”
  • He said that we must never forget that Israel is our greatest ally in the Middle East, and vowed that “I shall never let Israel down.”

Third and most important pillar: Never abandon our values.

  • “We must honor our language and realize that it is the most important, most basic and common bond which makes us an American.”
  • He said we shouldn’t allow multiculturalism to “grow on steroids” and make American culture subservient.
  • He said he doesn’t support late term abortion or abortion as birth control because he doesn’t believe that having a baby is punishment (reference to an Obamateurism).
  • He said “We must hold sacred the privilege of the institution of marriage as a bond between a man and a woman.”
  • He said we had to reclaim our “Judeo-Christian faith heritage.” He quoted John Adams: “We have no government armed with power, capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and religion. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
  • He said “This is not about a separation of church and state. It is about making sure that we do not separate faith from the individual. You must never forget that the American motto is In God We Trust.” (standing ovation)
  • His next statement almost got a standing ovation from me: “We welcome the beliefs of others in America, but our coexistence must be based on a simple premise: when tolerance becomes a one-way street, it leads to cultural suicide. And American cultural values shall never be subjugated to any other as long as I have air in my lungs.”

His closing thoughts started with a quote from George Washington: “We are either a united people or we are not. If the former, let us in all matters of general concern act as a nation which has national objects to promote and a national character to support. If we are not, let us no longer act a farce by pretending to it.” He quoted Abraham Lincoln: “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” He discussed how he grew up in the Atlanta area and went into the military, and then ran for political office as a public service to all Americans. He said “This is what Abraham Lincoln said. ‘Be sure you put your feet in the right place. Then stand firm.’ So as you depart here today from this great hall, from this great gathering of conservatives, this is the commission that I send you out with: Stand firm, for this is the dawn of a new America. God bless you all, God bless America, steadfast and loyal. Thank you.”

The speech can be seen in its entirety at The Rightscoop.

NOTE: The video of this speech recorded from C-SPAN was cut off near the end so they could cover a speech by the President. Most of the YouTube videos I saw all came from C-SPAN.

Palin is Running, and She’ll Get Creamed

It does appear that  former governor and GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah “you betcha” Palin will be throwing her beauty pageant sash into the presidential ring. She has added veteran Republican strategist Michael Glassner to serve as chief-of-staff for her political action committee, Sarah PAC, and steer her political operation. For the political insiders this is the strongest indication yet that Sarah Palin is seriously laying the groundwork for a serious bid for the white house. Unfortunately, she is probably the most disastrous of the current crop of possible GOP hopefuls and in my humble opinion would stand absolutely no chance in the general election. I will even venture to say that I don’t think she’ll make it out of the primaries. She is mistaking the general support the Right gives her as a person of character and cheerleader Tea Party as political support for a presidential bid. I submit to you the two are not the same and she will find this out the hard way. And if by some miracle she were to get the nod to lead the Republican party into the next general election we will witness the most embarrassing of electoral trouncings since Mondale got crushed by Reagan.

I defend Palin vigorously from the hatred and smears from the Left and admire her commitment to what is right and true. For the most part I share her politics, values, and ideology. And I think she makes a great fundraiser and cheerleader for the Right in general and the Tea Party in particular. But she had her chance for glory and success on the national stage and frankly blew it. Unless surrounded by friendlies she bumbles, stumbles, and freezes up (see the infamous Katie Couric interview) and even at the famous Tea Party convention where she spoke she resorted to the poor man’s teleprompter (ink notes on her hand) and was incredibly ill at ease with even the most soft-ball of questions.

In this day and age, and hostile media environment, a conservative presidential contender must be articulate and intelligent, self-assured and nearly gaffe free, professional and as equally at ease with a hostile press lying in ambush as with a friendly audience. Sarah Palin, unfortunately, doesn’t possess those gifts. Her negatives are higher than Obamas and that’s with her doing very little other than creating a reality TV show, let alone running for the highest office in the land. This all adds up to her presidential support, even among fellow Republicans, being very soft and her true popularity residing only in a small segment of the electorate. Despite what we may wish, Barack Obama is still a personally popular president and makes a more formidable candidate than he does an actual president. This spells for potential disaster for the wrong opponent on the national stage in a general election and Palin should remain in her role as fundraiser and cheerleader, occasional kingmaker and rally speaker, but avoid the temptation to join the crowded GOP field vying for the POTUS.

From Politico:

Sarah Palin hires a chief of staff

Sarah Palin has hired a veteran operative to serve as a chief of staff to her loosely organized team, one of the biggest indicators yet that the former Alaska governor is leaning toward a run for the White House.

POLITICO confirmed late Friday night that Palin has hired Michael Glassner to serve the key role.

“We are excited that Mike has agreed to come on to help the team,” SarahPAC treasurer Tim Crawford said.Glassner will be tasked with bringing greater organization to the far-flung and small staff that resides in several different states and time zones.

Glassner, whose hiring was first reported by CNN, is a former aide to ex-Sen. Bob Dole and is familiar with Palin from his service on John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.

One of the key hurdles most Republican operatives say Palin has to clear in order to seriously run for president is hire an experienced staff. Glassner is a step in that direction.

From Mr. Glassner’s resume:

May 2008 – November 2008 (7 months)

Managed the Vice Presidential campaign on behalf of Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin, the Republican nominees for President and Vice President of the United States. Directed campaign travel and scheduling, logistical advance, personnel, budgets, fundraising, and other campaign activities for the VP nominee. Managed a team of over 100 campaign staff and volunteers and served as a member of the campaign’s senior staff. Participated in strategy and planning for the McCain-Palin general election campaign

Senior Vice President, External Affairs IDT Corporation Telecommunications industry

Michael Glassner’s Experience Partner C&M Transcontinental Public Relations and Communications industry

C & M Transcontinental (C & M T) merges the leadership and public affairs capabilities and policy and market development expertise of two leading professionals with over 50 years combined experience in corporate strategic communications, government program management, marketing and public relations at the executive level, political campaign management and more. As a Republican and a conservative my goal is to select the most electable conservative to be the banner carrier for the Republican party and the conservative movement in the next presidential election. And in my humble opinion neither Mr. Glasser or anyone else can make Sarah Palin that person.

Let’s Take Notes, Shall We?

This clip is a Marine ripping into a Congressman. As I watch the crowd, as I hear the Marine’s voice and passion, and as my heart breaks with worry, yet beems with pride…I realize as I view more and more people who speak out that we are not alone.  http://www.libertyjuice.com/2010/08/27/marine-rips-into-congressman/

As for another voice…I know some don’t care for Glenn Beck. I ask, though, for everyone to dvr or watch him all this week. The facts, not just from what he says, but what can be researched, is eye opening and quite frankly, frightening unless we do something about what shall come. Economists state that food inflation shall sky rocket come 2011. I’m not sure how we can all form a liveable budget if milk is nearly $25 a gallon or some God forsaken thing.

I don’t want to speak for Beck’s research, for no matter what is said, there are those that think Glenn Beck is a lunatic simply attempting to promote his books and place fear within the “misguided”.  Research what is being said, to those skeptics out there, and to Beck’s trusting listeners.  He’s asked for every one of his viewers to reach out to the circles of friends, family, and even our strangers to watch what his team has investigated for this week.

I’m doing my part, if only a small role, to help wise us up and save our country.  I’ve never been one for conspiracy theories or wanting to believe that our precious, priviledged American way of life is on a last leg.

People…please. This progressive movement, of which I have been a sleeping giant to, is going to kill our finances, our securities, our way of life, and our entire American culture as we know it.  The Republicans in the house majority have a lot of work to do. Real work, real actions, real plans!  Republicans…don’t give us any lip service, or you will be blamed for all of the failures to come…that’s how the picture will be formed.

Hats off to this Marine. Hats off to people like Glenn Beck shouting a voice to be listened to.  Whether you view for entertainment or information, for God’s sakes, watch his show this week and let’s at least take some notes to learn from.

Name recognition taken to a whole new level..

Actual name from the ballot in my area.  And yes, I voted.

I love election day.

Republicans Kind of Suck … Which Is Why They Will Win Huge in November

Republicans Kind of Suck … Which Is Why They Will Win Huge in November

Priceless, and now you know why. A great find on instapundit today that was well worth sharing. The style kind of reminds me of our own THB.

So the Democrats sucked. But not just plain old, usual politician sucked, but epic levels of suck where it’s hard to find an analogue in human history that conveys the same level of suckitude. It was sheer incompetence plus arrogance — and those things do not complement each other well. We’re talking sucking that distorts time and space like a black hole.

It’s Godzilla-smashing-through-a-city level of suck — but a really patronizing Godzilla who says you’re just too stupid and hateful to see all the buildings he’s saved or created as he smashes everything apart. Or, to use Obama’s favorite analogy, you have a car stuck in ditch, so you call the mechanic, but the only tool he brings with him is a sledgehammer. And then he smashes your car to pieces and charges you $100,000 for his service. Finally, he calls you racist for complaining. Obama and the Democrats have been so awful, it’s hard for the human brain to even comprehend.

But the Democrats will counter that the Republicans also suck. And while this is true, it’s not really going to help them. As I pointed out before, both a dog incessantly barking and a zombie apocalypse are things that everyone would agree suck. Yet no one during a zombie apocalypse, while hiding out in a boarded up mall, would turn to the other survivors and say, “We don’t want to kill all the zombies; then we’d have to go back to being woken up at night by that annoying dog next door.” But this is the best argument the Democrats can come up with. “Remember how awful the Republicans and Bush were? You hated them. You don’t want to go back to that.” Yes, why would people want to go back to when 6% unemployment was considered high?

A clear winner, er favorite, er candidate has emerged…

After a long time away, I too am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel – the difference this time is that I have hope that it is not the train.

Reading up on the latest events I came across this incredibly fair and balanced approach to the recent debate between Christine O’Donnell and the other guy.  Is it just me, or does Christine O’Donnell sound like she’s about to cry every time she says something… Is there anything better than stating facts and slamming an opponent all while sounding like you are about to break down?

Check out the story that intrigued me after the jump…

Sex Education, Social Engineering, Progressive Politics And The Rainbow Agenda

I personally home schooled my daughter through 7th grade and my son through 6th. She is positioned to be the valedictorian of her school next year and hopes to go into law or medicine. As an 11th grader, she claims to be the ONLY virgin she knows of in her entire high school (of over 1000 students). Her 8th grade brother is an honor student taking both regular and advanced classes despite profound dyslexia. He, too, is proud to be a virgin. Referring to his classmates, he says “most of them” are sexually active. What difference did an abstinence-based (home schooling) curriculum make in their lives? I believe it made all the difference! By far the best place to give children a healthy understanding of the proper role of sex in their lives is in their own homes.

Alaska gored by a RINO

Sen. Lisa Murkowski mounting write-in bid for Senate

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski says she’ll mount a write-in campaign in Alaska in an effort to hold onto her seat after last month’s stunning Republican primary loss to Joe Miller. Murkowski made her announcement Friday evening at a rally in Anchorage while surrounded by supporters chanting: “Run, Lisa, Run!”

This falls under the category of “are you kidding me?”. Followed by “are you serious?” and, cue the sarcasm, “good luck with that.” People don’t know how to be good losers anymore and I guess the days of crossing over the aisle to shake your opponents hand after they beat you fair and square has gone the way of opening the door for ladies and the Roman Empire. Every shrill voice who has screeched about how O’Donnell endangers the GOP takeover of the Senate should now be equally shrill about how Murkowski now endangers that same goal. But they won’t, because it is a one way street to attack those who dare to not hurrah abortion, cheerlead the homosexual agenda, or otherwise imprudent enough to mention the word “constitutional.”

I can tell you one thing. This is not going to be your usual boring mid-term election. There is a surprise every day and it gets weirder all the time.

We will be tackling some tough issues like who will be the GOP nominee for such offices as County Commissioner, County Assessor, Clerk & Recorder etc. The funnest part, and the best way to while away the time during the endless nominating speeches, is to read and vote on all the various resolutions that emerge from the various precinct caucuses. My precinct only had one. which we unanimously approved, which was some gun-rights resolution sponsored by Rocky Mountain Gun Owners.

Doing my part…

Saturday morning I get to rise a bit early and attend the Republican party District Meeting to help choose the delegates to the 4th congressional and state conventions. Fulfilling my duty as  an American to participate in the grassroots mechanics of a political party. I am also the new precinct committeeman for precinct 2212 and will get to run the caucus meeting in a couple years, thank you, thank you very much. I live in a relatively small town (about 15,000) and the tea party types basically dominate the District I found myself having to attempt to “prove” my conservative credentials over the phone to the wife of the one of the local 9-12 leaders tonight. 9-12 members and sympathetic conservatives like myself basically swept the local caucuses. I have the feeling they are basically voting ‘in mass’ for various delegates to state tomorrow and I am not sure if I made the cut. Hopefully, I am on the “nice”, and not the “naughty” list. I was quizzed about the congressional and state races and I’m afraid my hesitation about the Colorado governor’s race may have hurt me. I have made some connections and constructive outreaches to the group. I am now friends with one of the wives of the co-chairman of the local 9-12 group and they both promoted my book and sent my column “The Rise of the TEA Party” to every member on their email list. So all of that may help a bit.

The more things change. . .

I have always heard that history repeats itself because no one listened the first time around, and today I have found additional evidence to support that claim.  Scroll through some of the Time magazine covers, specifically from 1976-1980 and take a look at the headlines, the people, the concerns of the day.  From socialism to the war on terror – it’s all there in vivid color.  I recommend starting here and moving forward for a really interesting look at, well…  Time.

How would YOU spend taxpayer dollars?

THIS just takes the cake.

No WONDER the president is so popular.  And here I was under the impression it was politics as usual.  Obviously it is NOT politics as usual!

Republicans have stooped to a new low – pointing out questionable spending habits ‘hidden’ in the stimulus package.  It’s no wonder that the Democratic party can’t get anything done.  With all the partisan politics going on, it’s obvious that the house and senate are totally deadlocked (as apparently no side holds the majority of seats in either location) and there can be no hope or change in our future.

But fear not.  For the list of items included in the stimulus package contains enough goodies to keep the party going all night long.  One thing’s for sure. Syracuse’s enrollment ought to be pretty high in the male demographic this next year.

Hitler Finds Out Scott Brown Won Massachusetts

I just love the parodies over the past few years on this one scene.

That’s Some Audacity

I heard on the radio this morning that Mr. Obama blames the recent Massachusetts election results on voter anger.  This anger is not just present day anger for the last two years, but it’s more than that.  Apparently it’s anger over the past 8 years.

As a non-elitist, I am sure I totally missed the meaning in that statement.  What I heard the president say was that in order to stick it to George W. Bush, Massachusetts voters elected a Republican.  I am certain that is not what he meant.  But it does beg a few questions. . .

Ahhh sweet victory!

I admit that I was worried concerning the Brown throw down concerning the MSM spinning.  But there is a reason why.  The price of corruption shows no bounds and the People have had enough.  And God help us all, they are a tad ticked off … so to speak.

There is a woman actually handing out absentee ballots.  Why?

But that is neither here nor there anymore.  How about this little tid bit as Brown is now elected in “The Peoples Seat” that Barney Frank is shaking in his boots concerning Obamacare.

GOP calls for Harry Reid to step down over remarks

Part of me says that a Republican offensive is just what the doctor ordered in response to Harry Reid’s goofy comments regarding then candidate Obama.  That part of me wants to get back at the Dems for the scores of times that anyone with conservative credentials has been made to feel bad or resign from whatever post they held over remarks that were not cleared by the sensitivity police  at various universities.

And then there is part of me that wonders when and if we will ever get over the nonsensical tit-for-tat in racial politics.  Needless to say, if Reid were speaking of a candidate from a southern state and said that “he did not have a redneck dialect, unless he wanted to have one” this wouldn’t even be an issue.  And isn’t that really the way it should be?

If everytime someone makes  heretical statements regarding race, should they be forced to give up a little something in order to atone for that sin?  And shouldn’t the Republicans want a very unpopular and vulnerable senator to continue holding his post as majority leader heading into an election cycle?  Both he and Pelosi are very good faces to attach to the utter incompetence of the “most ethical Congress in history.”

Which part of me is correct?

This Just In! Republicans to blame for Global Warming Skepticism!

Washington (CNN) — A rise in skepticism among Americans over global warming is mostly due to changes among Republicans, according to a new national poll.

Of course it has nothing to do with the British, the Russians, or the rest of the world catching a glimpse of those leaked documents.

More at the church of all that is news.

The G.O.P. Stalinists Invade Upstate New York

By Frank Rich

BARACK OBAMA’S most devilish political move since the 2008 campaign was to appoint a Republican congressman from upstate New York as secretary of the Army. This week’s election to fill that vacant seat has set off nothing less than a riotous and bloody national G.O.P. civil war. No matter what the results in that race on Tuesday, the Republicans are the sure losers. This could be a gift that keeps on giving to the Democrats through 2010, and perhaps beyond.

Only in the alternative universe of the far right is Obama a pariah and Palin the great white hope. It’s become a Beltway truism that the White House’s (mild) spat with Fox News is counterproductive because it drives up the network’s numbers. But if curious moderate and independent voters are now tempted to surf there and encounter Beck’s histrionics for the first time, the president’s numbers will benefit as well. To the uninitiated, the tea party crowd comes across like the barflies in “Star Wars.”

If you have the stomach for it, read the whole op-ed. Reading Rich makes me sick. It is even worse when he is right.

Re: The Era of Transparency

So we are faced with a massive retooling of our entire manufacturing infastructure and a takeover of the entire health system which accounts for perhaps one-sixth of the economy.  Additionally, Joe Biden hints last Sunday that we may need yet another stimulus bill to continue to jump start the economy.  At the same time, California is issuing IOU’s like Lloyd and Harry did in the movie Dumb and Dumber because the liberal Republican governor massively increased spending throughout his term oblivious to the consequences of such behavior!

At this point we should be saying to ourselves, “perhaps the Dave approach isn’t so bad.”  Now I know PG and DFV scoff at the grass roots conservatives and all or nothing partisans like our friend Dave, but it is now clear that the Obama machine can only be stopped by them.

The GOP is impotent.  Moderate conservatives haven’t the stomach to utilize the tactics of the left.  It’s up to the Becks, Limbaughs, religious right and their supporters to fight the most massive government encroachment in American history.

During this time there will be nothing but fawning praise and adulation for the ever “historical” deeds of the Chosen One.  The fourth estate has cravenly sold out to Obama without so much as a wimper.  The media now broadcasts hour-long specials dedicated to helping a politcal party push it’s health care agenda.  And while the hen house gets ransacked by the coyotes, the dogs are leashed and the shotgun is still in the closet.  Can someone please wake up ma and pa?

Your messenger’s quote of the day/week/month: Obama Thanks You For All The Free Advertising

I’m not sure what to say to my Republican friends anymore.

I honestly thought all the pearl clutching paranoids pulled the lever with the D next to it, but I guess I was mistaken. You ran the least attractive candidate possible for President and lost by a little and you’re ready to commit suicide in your Ayn Rand bunker after you’re finished homeschooling your kids.

It’s tiresome stuff. I’m going to try to explain it to you one more time. Obama, and all his accomplices in his co-prosperity sphere, are not “secret” anythings. Not secret muslims, socialists, communists, antichrists or Illuminati. He’d adore it if you spent the next eight years looking for his birth certificate, because he knows it’s a colossal waste of his enemies’ time, and that’s a natural born fact.

It’s a straight plunder economy. Why are you so confused and surprised about this? You keep talking about all sorts of ill effects that are going to appear in decades and verify your wild hypothesis about the guy. But the effects are always immediate and visible. He’s not playing a deep game here.I take that back. Maybe he is. He’s confused a lot of people into thinking he’s confusing.

GOP set to launch rebranding effort

CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive – GOP set to launch rebranding effort « – Blogs from CNN.com.

Coming soon to a battleground state near you: a new effort to revive the image of the Republican Party and to counter President Obama’s characterization of Republicans as “the party of ‘no.’”

CNN has learned that the new initiative, called the National Council for a New America, will be announced Thursday.

It will involve an outreach by an interesting mix of GOP officials, ranging from 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain to Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor and the younger brother of the man many Republicans blame for the party’s battered brand: former President George W. Bush.

In addition to Sen. McCain and Gov. Bush, GOP sources familiar with the plans tell CNN others involved in the new group’s “National Panel Of Experts” will include:

*Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, a former national GOP chairman
*Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal
*Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney

It will report to GOP congressional leaders, and among those signing the announcement that will be made public Thursday are:

*House GOP Leader John Boehner
*House GOP Whip Eric Cantor
*House GOP Conference Chairman Mike Pence
*Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell
*The No. 2 Senate Republican, Jon Kyl
*And the Senate GOP Conference Chairman, Lamar Alexander

Dude she played the Reagan card!

There is no plausible scenario under which Republicans can grow into a majority while shrinking our ideological confines and continuing to retract into a regional party. Ideological purity is not the ticket back to the promised land of governing majorities — indeed, it was when we began to emphasize social issues to the detriment of some of our basic tenets as a party that we encountered an electoral backlash.

It is for this reason that we should heed the words of President Ronald Reagan, who urged, “We should emphasize the things that unite us and make these the only ‘litmus test’ of what constitutes a Republican: our belief in restraining government spending, pro-growth policies, tax reduction, sound national defense, and maximum individual liberty.” He continued, “As to the other issues that draw on the deep springs of morality and emotion, let us decide that we can disagree among ourselves as Republicans and tolerate the disagreement.”

She and Ronald are right.

Zo’s been CPACing

Dang, wish I could have gotten to DC for this event to shake his hand. It was fun being at CPAC a few years ago. I just generally dislike going into D.C. (too many people!) and usually avoid it if I can.

Rock on, Zo!
