“And understand this: If American workers are being denied their right to organize and collectively bargain when I’m in the White House, I’ll put on a comfortable pair of shoes myself; I’ll walk on that picket line with you as President of the United States of America. Because workers deserve to know that somebody is standing in their corner.”
It’s time to head to Wisconsin and lace up those shoes Mr. President, you’ve got some walking to do. Your disciples need you.
The Wisconsin Assembly passed a bill this morning that would strip most public workers of their collective bargaining rights — the first significant action on Governor Walker’s plan to restore sanity to the state of Wisconsin.
The bill now heads to the Senate where it will await the Democrats’ return from their hideout in Illinois. Unfortunately, they have given no indication they will return any time soon. The Democratic Senators of Wisconsin continue to violate their constitutional oath of office:
“Members of the legislature…shall before they enter upon the duties of their respective offices, take and subscribe an oath or affirmation to…support the constitution of Wisconsin, and faithfully to discharge the duties of their respective offices to the best of their ability.”
Perhaps I’m missing something. Is not one of the duties of a Senator -in fact, the highest duty- the obligation to attend legislative sessions and vote on legislation? It seems to me that “faithfully” and “to the best of their ability” are pretty clear. Obviously, my liberal friends don’t see it that way. In their minds, they see an invisible asterisk, which reads: “unless you disagree with the legislation.”
Fear not Democrats of Wisconsin; your Cheerleader in Chief is on his way to walk that picket line with you.
